RunDWP (203), San Jose, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 22 oz bottle. Light piney aroma, pours a cloudy orange with a thick, persistant white head. Flavor is really hop dominated, with strong pine and grapefruit flavor and a touch of sweet malt. I can understand why it is popular for some folks, but really isn’t quite my style. Really aggressive flavors, too aggressive in my opinion, and for me there are better IPA’s that go for better balance and complexity. BeerGestapo (729), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2008 Updated: Feb 12, 2009(USA) Courtesy of AFI96, Thanks waylo !! Pours a lite amber color with a med white head. The aroma is of citrus, and grapefruit. The taste is not as hoppy as i thought, but it was kind of bitter.. I was not that impressed with it as most people , but it was ok !!! Update, I recently had this on tap at a place near Hershey Pa. I must of had a bad bottle or to many other beers the first time. This was extremely yummy !!! so i felt i needed to re-rate this brew. Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Jul 20, 2008 Yellow amber pour with a citrus hoppy nose. Flavors mingle of malt and citrus hops. Needs more hops. lipscomb216 (78), USA Jul 20, 2008 Definitely top 5 for the style, nice, sweet flavor and quality aroma. Definitely can smell the Columbus hops, as well as taste the grapefruit quality of the Cascades. Domestic 2 row provides balanced malt sweetness to match the bittering hops and flavor hops. Overall, I would drink this till my blood turned to it, then drink it again. Arayaga2 (934), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 20, 2008 Golden with medium white head. Aroma is floral, hoppy, and sweet. Taste is same with fruity citrusy floral hop presence and nice malty backbone. $5/22oz RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Jul 20, 2008 Updated: Feb 13, 2009Very nice beer. Pours a amber gold with a thick head. Strong aroma of grapefruit with additional notes of caramel and pine. Very well integrated flavor. Lasting bitter finish. Very nice. twitcher (293), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a light-ish amber color, nice half of chunky foam that sticks around well. Aromas of sharp citrus hops are noticeable literally a foot away from the fresh pour. Some caramel sweetness on the nose too, but mostly hops dominate. That trend continues in the flavor... definitely hops first. Sharp citric bitterness, loads of grapefruit, lemon lime, and hints of resin and floral notes. Superb hop character. Unbalanced, but seems intentionally so- and a superb job done with said unbalance. Excellent IPA. FlssmrBrewAlum (1081), Lisle, Illinois, USA Jul 17, 2008 Updated: Oct 6, 200822 oz. bottle from Binny’s (Orland Park, IL). Pours a hazy amber hue with nice whitish head that sticks around, albeit in a lesser form. Aromas are largely floral with a few touches of citrus. Initial is largely floral, some citrus, and some decent malt character. Body is medium, making way for a nice bitter finish that goes a little south on me at the end (Too sharp) which leads me to believe balancing was a bit of an issue or the choice of the brewer. Either way, a good beer up front (But not special) that has a bit of a weak finish that causes it to fall a bit flat. Redeeming characteristics are it’s assertive hoppiness which is impressive on its own. Would drink again, but in the middle of the pack IPA-wise.
Re-rate - Tre Vigne Pizzeria (St. Helena, CA) draft. Wonderfully hoppy freshness, intense bitterness. I knew a revisit and a fresh draft would definitely pay dividends with this IPA. Wonderful!
