abcfan (247), New Jersey, USA Jun 7, 2008 Very nice brew. Pours a orange yellow color with thin white head. Aroma of hops and caramel. Taste follow suite. Very nice carbonation on the tongue with a very bitter, long finish. Would drink again. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Jun 3, 2008 Bear Republic Racer 5 is an unclear orange color with a very nice beige head. The aroma is very sweet and hoppy. The flavor is also very sweet and the taste is slightly nappy and a bit wattery but still very drinkable. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Jun 3, 2008 Beautiful IPA that is very caramelly and though not sweet. Sticky feeling in the mouth with a somewhat harsh but pleasant cabonation. I don’t sense all the pine that poeple are mentioning, more floral with small almost indecipherable grass notes. One of the smoothest IPA’s I’ve come across. Very lovely indeed, and deserved of its 98 percentile rating. I’m actually tasting the pine as it warms, not nearly as pleasant now, to me at least. Stil a great IPA. Butters (1623), Virginia, USA May 30, 2008 Updated: Jun 16, 2009Draft. Pours a slightly hazy honey-amber with minimal white head. Fruity hop aroma almost comes off as perfumey. Tastes distincly balanced toward hops but with some malt to balance. Sweet bitter finish. 6 3 6 3 11
rerate bottle. Good lacing, sweet light citrus, apple, caramel, honey, piney, mellowed, and balanced with a lingering bitterness. joshwilfong (771), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 25, 2008 orange and golden with solid white head. flavor has a very nice prominent malt component, followed by a hop component that adds mostly flavor with only mild bitterness. a unique IPA due to the large flavor hops without the bitterness. very nice scoobysnak (249), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA May 24, 2008 Smell is sweet with the obvious hops and citrus that you would expect. Taste is really balanced. A good amount of sweet and hops that makes it really even keel throughout. A very good IPA that isn’t just hops for hops sake as many West Coast IPA’s are. zappafan99 (462), Ascension Island May 24, 2008 Mmmm...lots of hops and lots of malt in the aroma and taste.Very smooth. Not astringent or soapy. Full bodied and tasty. Very drinkable. Davelovesbeer (3), USA does not count May 24, 2008 Unfortunately I had racer X before I had the 5. Good hoppy flavor that doesn’t slap you in the face like others. Nice lingering aftertaste. On tap at Pyzano’s Pizza in Castro Valley
