taffurs888 (121), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 10, 2008 Whoa, is this hoppy. Nice bitterness to it, pours a color of lemonade. Lot of hop action, strong taste of grapefruit with some pine. On draft at Fat Heads in Pittsburgh’s South Side. kevin62 (267), New Jersey, USA Feb 10, 2008 This offering from Bear Republic poured a golden-amber color and a small, white head.Aromas were heavy pine and hops, all the usual flavors and aromas of an IPA,still a well done beer none the less. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Feb 9, 2008 Cloudy orange color with a frothy white head. Big grapefruit flavors and that oh so subtle metallic back end bite. Nice floral and citrus aroma. Big flavor for a straight up IPA. Nice malt profile with some caramel in there to balance out all those hops. Really enjoyable. jbrown (4), Connecticut, USA does not count Feb 8, 2008 A very nice IPA. I just wish it was a little stronger. It has an excellent taste and finish though. You should try Dogfish head 90min IPA and Avery’s Maharaja if you want to know how to make a real IPA (and make it strong!). Bear Republic Racer 5 is a nice "chill" IPA sickassmick (81), Concord, California, USA Feb 6, 2008 bomber. No glass, woops. Aroma of sweet and some citrus, floral hops, maybe banana. I have to say I’ve seen this bottle before and don’t really think it’s all that cool looking label wise. Maybe why I’ve strayed from it. Front taste is a little syrupy. Hops sit right in the middle with not a lot of aftertaste.. Mouthfeel is fairly heavy with lively carbonation. Really sweet, maybe a bit too much, but still a better balance than a lot of over-hopped thin feeling ipas. Maybe just a shade darker on the malt would have put this one at the top. Not a bad beer, but not a 98 imo. definitely one that gets better the more reviews you read. asedzie (453), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours copper with moderate off-white head, some lacing. Aroma is big and full of hops – pineapple, mango, light pine notes. Flavor is hoppy, but very well balanced. Creamy, full palate. Mild caramel flavor and piney hops. Lightly bitter, mild tropical fruit. Bitterness and hop resin linger in the mouth. A really good ipa, hoppy, but also well balanced. TheRealBastard (141), The-No, California, USA Feb 5, 2008 Solid beer, weak nose though. The pour is Light golden amber with only a tiny bit of head. The nose is pretty weak and hard to smell anything. Maybe my nose is clogged, but no aromas stand out besides hints of apricots. This beer has piney hop flavors with a tangy almost fruity aftertaste. Very nice beer would drink this again. Big thanks to James (aka RollinHard) for this one! WESSIDEMC (10), Santa Cruz, California, USA Feb 4, 2008 I love this beer. I drink it as often as possible. If you havn’t tried it yet, go get some asap. If you’re a fan of good hoppy beer, this one’s for you. Great with food... especially homemade steak nachos ;)
