Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Bottle at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Pours amber with off white head. Great aroma of hops (simcoe), pineapple, papaya, peach and pine. The flavour is not as good as the aroma. Its dry with notes of hops, fruit, pine, caramel and grass. It has a long bitter after taste.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of my son. Pours a clear amber-orange with an average off-white foamy head that lasts throughout and leaves excellent lacing. Great citrus and floral aroma that hits you every time you tip the glass. The flavor is a big hop taste of grapefruit, tangerine, floral, and pine. Nicely balanced with caramel sweetness yet still allowing the hop bitterness come through and linger to the end. Medium bodied. Great IPA.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with grapefruit, apricots and pine needles. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of apricots, orange, grapefruit, pine needles and resin. Loads of piney, citrussy hops in a fairly bitter finish. Medium body, with some caramel sweetness. Lovely well balanced IPA with an impressive hop character.

Bottle (in NZ). A bright and clear copper, no head. Lots of tropical fruit on the clear nose, with some floral notes as well. Plenty of bitterness all the way through the swallow, and those hops stay with you well after the finish. Tropical fruits again in the flavour, but swome good juicy touches from the malt as well. A very good new world IPA.

US trip Aug/Sept 2009 - Notes indicate beer from the bottle, decanted into glass, sweet malt, with some hops, but finished too sweet with not quite enough hops to back up the malt profile - maybe some storage issues, tho was from a fridge and well within dates

Bottle at Monks Cafe, Stockholm. Amber body with a steady off white head. Lovely aroma of spicy hops, caramel, mango, pine and pineapple. Very powerful and fruity. Flavour is grapefruit, pine, caramel, pineaplle and lighter notes of hay. Very drinkable and quaffable. Loved it!

22oz bottle. Whoa - I got a faceful of hops while pouring - and the glass was on the table and I was standing! A pretty soft amber color, nice white head that dissipated but kept a nice presence. I expected a bit more mouthfeel, but it was still good and smooth. Great job, Bear Republic!!

TAP: semi-hazy light gold pour, white fluffy head, good lacing. Lemon citrus and hop on the nose, creamy mouthfeel with a big hop bite late. Good IPA.
