Nice IPA, well balanced and drinkable, the alcohol is not present in taste. Full malt background and very nice clean hop taste. Will have to buy this one again. Not my favorite, but not bad....

Draft at Monks. Slightly hazy light rich amber. Frothy white head that reduces to a lasting foamy ring. Lots of citrusy resiny hops. Lemon zest. Grapefruit pith. Fresh oak and pine. Clementines. Pepper. Nice grassy element too. Decent body. Bit of bite on the tongue but not overpowering. A very good quality go to American IPA.

Bottle from BeerHive, Edinburgh [210513]
Amber, little hazy, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of citrus, grass, old lemon zest, resinous hops, plenty of hops, slight floral note, lots going on, sweet fruity malt
Taste of fruity sweet malts, some tropical fruits, bitter citrus zest hops, old lemon zest, soft grassy hops, nice zesty hops, quite complex, touch of orange, not too malty (which is good)
Palate - Medium carb and body, good balance of bitter hop and sweet fruity malts. Finish as main flavour, little dry, sweet lingering fruity malt with citrus and a slight floral note comes through
Overall - Very good US IPA - it’s not ultra fresh but has held up well and it isn’t too malty

Hop loaded. Lively head is kept. Lemon and grapefruit with spice. Lengthy aftertaste which warms. Stonking beer!!!

Racer 5 pours a nice golden color with a white cap. Smells like lemon and a little herbal. Flavor is citrusy (lemon rind) and hoppy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A - clear (top of bottle) becoming hazy (bottom of bottle) golden with creamy white head that, as is typical for IPAs, has limited retention. S - strong aroma of hops; fresh, piney/sprucy, floral and nicely complex. There’s probably some roasted malt lurking in the aroma too, but the hops just jump out. T - Frankly, the strong piney hop aroma, while very pleasant, is a bit forbidding as it suggests an intensely bitter and piney taste. Such is not the case. This is a refreshing, easy-to-drink IPA that has moderately strong hop flavor together with a quite strong aroma. Moderately bitter grapefruit/pine finish and aftertaste. M - good body and carbonation O - an outstanding Amer. IPA, particularly suitable for those who prefer a strong aromatic contribution from hops more than a strong flavor or pronounced bitterness. Quite different than, but overall about on par with, the local Sweetwater IPA I had (for about the 20th time) earlier this week. (from 2011 notes)

Citrus notes with a hoppy kick. Grapefruity after taste left on palate. Great beer and now easily accessible across the east coast US. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
