Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. I love all of BR’s beers, but this one is probably third on my list after Hop Rod and Red Rocket. I still love it, but its just more simple-a straight ahead IPA, not a ton of complexity. Of course, this is being picky comparing it to its bigger brothers. Still, in my top 5 all time IPAs and a great beer all around.

This was one of many great bottled beers given to me by a friend in San Diego. I kept this one out of a tasting I held with my Flying Saucer amigos. This was one brewery that stood out in the ’05 GABF. They brew solid beers and this was no exception. It is hazy orangeish amber in color with a good head. Good lacing.... It has a deep woody, hop aroma and you can tell it has backbone. The flavor is fruity- more citrus with caramel sweetness and then an intense grapefruit hop dryness that lingers awhile. A very solid IPA.

Deep golden in colour with a thin creamy head. Heavy piney, grapefruit hop aroma as well as some sweet malts to. The flavour is a well balanced act of big grapefruit, orange and piney hops and a sweet malt backbone. Great bitter lingering finish, and beautiful sticky lace down the side of my glass. An excellent I.P.A.

22 oz bomber. Pours a cloudy orange copperish color with a medium sized white head. Aroma has that classic piney west coast IPA scent, full of fresh hops. Taste is much the same. Lots of hops and fresh pine needles present along with a hint of malt. Aftertaste leaves a slight butterscotch flavor. Excellent.

Slightly hazy orange body with light sediment. Small foamy off-white head. Aroma is sweeter than the bitter hop flavor. Great mouthfeel that is heavy enough to keep it interesting, but thin enough to make you want another one. Finish moves from bitter to a toasted nutty exit. One of the beers that spawned my love for IPAs.

On tap. Honey colored, hazy, no head or lacing. Honey and flowers on aroma. Well balanced, honey sweet, flowery bitter--fantastic! 10/2008 Bottled. I’ve also had on tap in Healdsburg. Cloudy, honey body, sparkling lightly and topped with a small, creamy head that laces quite nicely. Nice, strong aroma of hops, floral, sweet, citrusy, pine, inviting. Medium-full body with light, foamy-creamy carb. I taste sugar, grapefruit rind, pollen, flower petals, pine, wood on finish. Long, moderately bitter aftertaste and my stomach attests to the hop content of this beer. Alcohol is transparent.

IPA is my favorite style along with Double IPA This tends to affect my scores. The came from a 22 oz bottle. Love that label. Deep golden color tending toward amber with a rich and foamy off white head. Aroma of hops with citrus in the background. Nice feel in the mouth and a very fresh taste that makes this a pleasure to drink. Finish is hoppy, with just the correct bitterness. The alcohol is present but is again well balanced with the malts and hop;s. An excellent IPA, and for me is about as good as a beer can get. We have a lot of great IPA’s around here. I guess it is time for a blind tasting IPA party to sort out the very best.

Deserves its high rating, simply a great IPA. Balanced but powerful hop presence, great looking and smelling beer. Enjoyed in a large bomber, interested in trying other BR offerings.
