Delirium (433), Santa Cruz, California, USA Sep 7, 2007 Bomber. Pours slightly cloudy orange with a moderate fluffy lasting white head. Aroma is fresh pine and citrus hops with some honey-sweet malt, but mostly dominated by the pine-resin. Flavor is similarly resinous pine hops and fresh grapefruit, with sufficient malt backing keeping things held together and moderately sweet, and some generic bittering hops in the finish. Smooth and oily mouthfeel, with a little bit of astringency in the finish. This manages to be hugely hoppy yet easily drinkable and well balanced; well done.
RaginCajun (263), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 15, 2008 Updated: Oct 16, 2008Dark amber body with a constant bubbling signaling a heavy amount of carbonation. Small diminishing white head. Aroma is very natural floral/hoppy with a slight malt note. The first taste is very smooth and sneaky; this beer is extremely well balanced. The raw bite of heavily hopped beers is not present while you get the full aroma and bitterness profile from the hops. Malt profile is barely present. The disappointing part of this beer is lack of intensity of the taste and the odd earthy taste that is present. While well made, there are some faults, and this can probably stand as a middle of the road IPA. Also, this beer is too sugary, leaving a heavy aftertaste of sucrose. SynergyXJ (411), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Oct 15, 2008 Bottle, #411 Orange pour with decent head. Citrus hop aroma and flavor. Nice finish, very good IPA. jhumphries69 (537), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Oct 13, 2008 Draft at Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, CA. Pours a deep, clear orange/dark gold with an off-white head. The aroma has a nice evergreen and citrus hop profile (three C’s) with subtle crystal malt. Flavor starts sharply hoppy with upfront bitterness - a little unbalanced. The hops take on a grassy, leathery, earthy character towards mid-palate. The finish is dry and firmly bitter with subtle breadiness. Mouthfeel is medium in body with sharpness from suds. Overall, a drinkable and nicely hopped IPA - but not as exceptional as I’d expect from ratings here. Perhaps I need a whole pint served in a proper glass to fully appreciate it (I had only a 4oz sampler glass - 1 of 10). kennydiaz (75), staten island, New York, USA Oct 11, 2008 POURS NICE AND SMOOTH WITH A GOLDEN COLOR.
