Racer X® is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X® is balance in a bottle.

Bottle, thanks Craig. Golden with white head. Nice big resinous pine aroma with grapefruit and mango. Taste of grapefruit and mango, some pine. Medium body and bitterness. Nice smell and flavout bit maybe a bit more in the palate could work.

Poured from bottle into tulip: Pours golden with a big, white, head. Aroma pine, grapefruit, citrus, caramel, earthy. Taste is way too sweet, it overwhelms the piney hops that do come through. Medium body, sticky mouthfeel, a bit cloying. It’s OK.

On tap. A: Light caramel. Moderate head. N: Tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple. Pine and earth. Brackish. Marijuana. T: Big bitterness that overtakes the sweetness. M: Very alcoholic. Sticky. Medium body. Scraping. O: Decent. I’m not a fan of bitter throat scrapers. Flavors don’t excite either.

Sweeter than I like in a DIPA, a little bit like an orange slice dipped in some caramel. Not hard to drink but not super crazy good.

Bottle from Bottle Barn, vintage 2013. Clear dark golden with a large head. Aroma and taste of hops, resin, grapefruit, pineapple and some light notes of malt. Nice bitter and hoppy finish. A great beer.

Pours unclear orange amber. Medium reducing creamy soapy white head with good lace. Aromas is dense hoppy, spicy, ripe fruity, citrus, grapefruit, pine - complex - plenty of caramel. Very aromatic. Medium plus body. Very hoppy. Spicy. Firm bitterness but not harsh. Oily. Sorta Fruity. Did I say hoppy? Alcohol is there but stays out of the way. Good but mot my fav.

Nicely balanced. Not much carbonation or lacing. Good bitter hoppiness, but no specific citrus notes. Some nice malty ale flavor. Some caramel and now some slight grapefruit after a few more swigs. Delightful. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
