Racer Xģ is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer Xģ is balance in a bottle.

what a nice surprise (on tap at woodstock wine) sweet, fruity, with a hop edge, dimensionally balanced. Aroma halfway betwen fresh pine & fresh grass, flowery & defintie, along with caramel and a peppery note. robust amber with thin white head (drafts here always a little flat). I taste sweat and bitter at once, in different parts of my mouth-- pink grapefruit, carmel, peach, alcohol.

Big hoppy bold beer here. Lots of malt, tons of hops, bold bitterness, full-bodied and well balanced. Good beer!

At Baileyís Taproom, Portland. An unclear amber beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of hops and very grass, leading to a very bitter finish. nice 2XIPA.

Darft: Poured a clear coppery color with a small ivory head. Aroma of peach, and orange. Grapefruit and pine dominate the taste with a medium mouth feel and a pleasant finish. A good lighter DIPA overall.

I had this probably 3 years ago at Redbones one night when I was too drunk to fairly review the beer. I remember it being quite good back then, but never being able to find it again until now (I believe Publick House had it at one of their Hop Head Throwdowns between then and now, but Iíve never made it to one of those).
Draught pint at Sunset Grill on 7/18/07
Copper-melon-amber colored beer, clear, with a one-finger beige head that sits well at cover, leaving minimal lacing.
Light pine perks up immediately in the nose, but before it can get too resinous or heavy, some lighter fruit notes (mango, pineapple, apple, cherry, orange) emerge and give it the complexity and aromatics expected in an upper tier DIPA. Some spicy wintergreen esters are noted as well, but before Iím completely satisfied with the aromatics, lots of (relatively speaking for the style) malt notes butt in. Sweet caramel malts and a fair amount of breadiness infringe on the hop aromatics, melding with the fruitiness to produce that peachy-melon-like sweetness that, when taken with hop bitterness and acidity, comes to fatigue my nose/palate rather quickly. White grapefruit and some alcohol dryness somewhat cleanse this sensation on the finish, creating a new, fresh, fruity experience with each new sniff. But it always ends too malty. Medium to medium-high strength of aroma, no flaws.
Very bitter, piney-acidic bite to the beginning, with watermelon and cherry adding enjoyable flavors, but caramel malt and dry, bready, earthen notes distracting/detracting too much from the hops. Some alcohol burn in concert with the hop acids on the finish. Itís too pine/resin heavy up-front, which dosent allow the softer fruity notes to shine and becomes too sweet through the middle, ending on too much bitterness and alcohol. Still, itís fairly enjoyable and flawless. Carbonation is low, not terribly tight.

Draft. Lightly hazed dark amber to bronze color with a full off white head. Albeit that there are different hops this still has a full citrus, primarily grapefruit aroma. Some melon and apricots also in the sniff. Certainly a IIPA scent. Fully and lightly oily and sometimes sticky body. Mild earthy malt components that are quickly swept aside by spiced stewed fruit and grapefruit. Finish is spicy with a nip of alcohol. Very drinkable, and better than typical as of late, IIPA.

On tap at Landmark 1850. Dark amber color. Smell of hops, caramel, grapefruit, spice, little rye and some flowers. Taste of malt, caramel, pine nuts, flowers, hops, citrus peal, grapefruit and brown sugar. Very sweet.

Aroma islike someone across from you just stuck a spoon into a grapefruit half and nailed you. Taste is extreme citus fruit and sweet caramel, very odd in that your taste buds go back and forth between the hops and malt. Very full taste, yet a strangely light body. Hops tasted a little old. Top Notch stuff, wish I could try it a Healdburg

A hazy amber body with a beige colored head. Aroma is hugely piney accompanied by a bitter fruitiness. Flavor is a mixture of some sour, bitter, and funky pine hops and some nice sweet fruity malt. Not as much hoppy resins in this IIPA as there are residual sugars. This is a big beer with alot of heavy malt and big hops.
