COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Racer X is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X is balance in a bottle.

Bottled from a tap at Half Time in Poughkeepsie NY. Pours a dark orange/amber color with a thin white head. Very good aroma of green and resinous hops with caramel and alcohol. Very good, assertive, powerfull flavor of green and resinous hops with alcohol and some caramelly sweetness and, no surprise there, a bitter finish, the finish isnt overly bitter though, its just right. When the beer warms up i can taste something akin to fir tree sap. Light to medium body, creamy and oily texture, very soft carbonation. Very good stuff, reminds me a lot of Racer 5 but with more hops and alcohol. Merci beaucoup David !

tap at RFD. light color, very very hoppy. not my bag: the finish is all hops (this one was heavily dry hopped, methinks). very little else in the beer to balance it out.

Huge hop piney resinous , oily and Floral as hell. Fresh this is a hop monster. Nice semisweet pale malt body with munich and biscuit malt notes. Great oily and full mouthfeel with tons of hop resin. Big high alpha bitterness with very complex hopping. Different hop varieties hit all over th palate. Great finish that leaves an oily hop feel for ever. great stuff, again when fresh.

Tap at Boulder Strong Ale Fest, Rating #4: Mostly clear amber in color with a small retained off white head. Aroma is big, piney, hoppy. Flavor is also big and hoppy, but there is a significant off flavor that Kevins says is burnt and rubbery. I think this might have been an off batch.

Citrusy and malty w/ slight flowers and alcohol sweetness on the nose... Very slight malty sweetness w/ hints of oranges and pine (good hop note) in the mouth. The beer poured a reddish brown color w/ orange highlights, a thin lasting head and good lacing. The mouthfeel was creamy and smooth, light bodied.

Draft @ RFD: Aroma is a strong hoppiness (all the west coast attributes). Flavor is a solid malt with one of the most potent hop profiles I have ever come across. So much hops. Very nice as long as you like suck your teeth out bitterness.

Small head, clear golden. Strong musky hop aroma. Round, sticky mouthfeel. Big hop taste up front, but not very bitter. Malty sweetness, touches of candi sugar maybe. Alc is barely noticable. Slightly bitter finish. Very nice.
