Racer X® is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X® is balance in a bottle.

On tap at the BR brewpub 2/18/06. Poured a rich amber color with a thin off-white head. Hoppy aroma with some sweet fruity, citrus notes. Flavor is well balanced with a nice bitter hoppiness and notes of citrus and malt. Great mouth feel! A very nice IIPA.

On tap, Toronado, San Francisco. Dark orange, no head. Looks flat. Strong citrus hop aroma. Strong hop taste, lots of malt sweetness. But despite the presence of flavour, this comes bland? WTF? Watery too. Becomes citrus orange and harsh. Unbalanced and maybe not served in the best condition. Disappointing to say the least, I’ll take a Racer 5 any day over this.

I bought this beer because Racer X was on the tap. I used to watch Speed Racer as a kid and so I decided to try this beer. It was my first experience with an IPA and will be my last. It was like drinking a bitter heavy foamy mess. No thanks!

(draft, Toronado) Clear amber body with off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, fruity (cantalope), floral. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, cantalope, some cherry, alcohol well hidden. Medium-full body with some stickiness.

Had on tap at the brewpub in Healdsburg. Very clean, fragrant, floral, minty aroma which is the high point of this one. Crystal clear orangey appearance with a soft, off-white head. Good bitterness in this one with some subtle citrusy notes, with some minty accents and a bit of back end nuttiness. thickish mouthfeel. Overall, very good.

This is a good beer I was able to get on tap at the Toronado in San francisco. Lots of good flavor and a nice golden flavor. I’ve been wanting to try this one for awhile and it was worth getting it. Very hoppy and yummy.

Draft. Dark amber with very little head. Grapefruit aroma and flavor with some smooth malt backing. Some tannins and grassiness present that may just be this batch, but it takes something away and means it’s nice, but could be better. One of my lower rated IIPA’s

This one is a whopper. Big hoppy aroma with a bit of pine, much darker coloring, and a small, dark head. Flavor is not straight hops, but a bit more floral. Alcohol is nicely masked. Mouthfeel is thick, almost like syrup. Delicious.
