COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Racer X® is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X® is balance in a bottle.

Bottle, from the Beer Dispensary, Apex. Good aroma, sweet caramel, orange, mango, floral. Clean brownish orange color, good head and lace. Bittersweet flavor. Heavy body, viscous oily creamy mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish. Darn nice, good hop mix with nice malt streak. Great brew really.

Appearance was clear orangish gold with lasting creamy off white 1 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are citrus, pine, lightly sweet malts hints of tropical fruits. Taste are grapefruit, lemon, pine, tangerine, blood orange with hints of soft malts and alcohol. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with medium-full body, lasting balanced hoppy finish. A great DIPA, wish had it fresher.

Bottle 22oz. [2013 vintage drunk a bit late] Pours orange with low white head. Aroma is of citrus, tropical fruits, caramel, flowers. Taste is of bitterness, caramel, "sucre d’orge", tropical fruits, pine, alcohol, malt, resin, flowers. Palate: Medium body. Balance is not 100% ok. Malty. Overall: Nicely hoppy. Quite ’murican. Not very drinkable.

Pours orange with white head and very little lacing. The aroma is awesome. ...like putting columbus and centennial hops up your nose. Taste is bitter with tangerine hops and some hop spice. Some alcohol at the end. Love it!

Bottle (22 oz). It’s written "2013 vintage" on the neck, but I don’t know when exactly this as been bottled. Purchased the day before consuming at Winooski Beverage Warehouse. Clear amber with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is of resinous hops, malt, caramel and light floral presence. Taste is moderately sweet with resinous hops, malt/caramel, light citrus and a warming alcohol presence. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Moderately dry finish. Good DIPA. Maybe a tad old, but drinkable and not a bad balance. I will revisit.

Tap at Ale House. Pours orange gold with a big clingy off white head. Aroma is floral, citrus. Fairly sweet malt backbone with floral, pineapple and citrus hops. Finishes an oily pine resin bitter. Solid.

Bomber to a glass mug. Pours a nice clear amber with an off white, yellowish head. Has great floral hop aroma on the nose. Great mouthfeel, creamy and full body. Good hop flavors, with a strong malt backbone giving it that mouthfeel. Really nice.

Never disappointed by the Racer series of beer... very hoppy (yum) with a bitterness that is not too over the top. Quality beer... really enjoyed this one...

2012 vintage, consumed in January 2014. 22 oz bottle, served in a tulip glass. Pours deep orange amber with thin lacy cream colored head. Aroma is dry oaky caramel malt with big floral and citrus hop notes. Taste is rich caramel malt, and sharply bitter notes of grapefruit and pine. Some nice hop flavors, particularly considering the age of this, but ultimately malt driven. Nice substantial body and mouthfeel, though 8.3% seems low for all the hefty body here. On the maltier side, but a really nice DIPA nonetheless.

Vintage 2013 poured on 1/17/14, so not optimally fresh (bottle date 10-21-13). Pours a dark orange color, clear, with a small off white head. Nice lacing on the glass. Big floral aroma of citrus grapefruit and pineapple, light pine, and sweet caramel malts. Flavor is very malt forward as expected for the age on this one, but still a nice beer. Floral tones alongside bright grapefruit and lemon rinds, a touch of mango, and sweet mealtimes in the backbone. Mouthfeel is slick and resinous, near syrupy, but still with a lightly dry finish. Carbonation on the low side. Overall a nice beer that I want to grab fresh as this is trending toward barleywine. Nevertheless this is still rather yummy.
