COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Racer X® is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X® is balance in a bottle.

22 oz. bottle (2012 vintage) served in a Westbrook tulip. Huge thanks to mfavoino (Matt) for hitting this long time want! A: Pours a dark amber with a yellowed head forming on the pour. It recedes to a bubbly ring that leaves some soapy, sticky lace as it goes down the glass. S: Sticky orange citrus with some candied grapefruit. A little booze with some nice caramel malt sweetness. T: Sticky grapefruit just like the nose with a little bit of smooth booze. Light bitter pine with some citrus zest and honey sweetness. Very clean throughout with nice residual hop oils sticking to the tongue. As the beer warms the caramel malt from the nose really comes out. M: Medium bodied with a little stick to it. Finishes clean and surprisingly light. Medium carbonation level. O: Nicely balanced and I really enjoyed the subtle nuances of this beer. Sweet, sticky and bitter, this beer hits all levels a hop head would want. Serving type: bottle

This beer a deep hazy golden with a touch of copper and a fluffy rich head. The aroma is less intense than I thought but yet still full of citrus, pine resin, bitter rind and a whiff of sweet malt. On the palate it's a huge blast of bitter hop goodness. The 8.3 ABV is virtually non-existent amongst the hop layers and light caramel malts.

Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing a hazed, orangey gold hue, with a bubbly layer of off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The aroma was sweet & fruity esters, floral perfume, then a seasoned/aged scent to the malt that seemed to combine with alcohol to form a BW scent. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation, the taste added a moderate, earthy bitterness that was mellowed some by a touch of malt & esters sweetness. Felt some alcohol, but altogether, didn’t come off as bold as I would’ve expected.

From a growler off the tap at Hop Yard Raleigh. Pours clear orange-gold with a large soapy off-white head that leaves lacing and hangs out awhile. Aroma is very fresh - orange citrus, vanilla... Taste hits with mildly sweet caramel malt and citrus before fading into strong pine flavors over a biscuity malt bed. Resolves into grapefruit citrus and quite a hoppy bitterness. Some notes of vanilla. Alcohol is reasonably well-disguised, though the finish is dry, bitter and pleasantly warming. Much less sweet than a typical American DIPA. Hit me like a ton of bricks too. Bazinga!
