Bomber. Pours a solid ruby red and orange color with a cap of dense off-white foam and bubbles. Aroma is predominately pine resin, grapefruit and floral hops with a little caramel malt sweetness around the edges. The taste starts out with a strong shot of resiny hops bitterness and grapefruit rind followed by notes of mint, pineapple and tangerine. Toward the end there’s some candied citrus, malt and alcohol to finish things off. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with soft carbonation and an aggressively bitter, resiny finish. Overall, another worthy addition to the Bear Republic hops bomb lineup.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a hazy deep amber color with a massive head of off-white colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a tons of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew hits the nose right as you open the beer. A wave of tropical fruits, heaviest of tangerine and mango, greet the nose, along with a very nice heavy showing of a grapefruit hop smell. With these aromas, so too comes other aromas of a bready and caramel smell as well as a rather decent showing of a pine and earthy smell. With a little bit of an herbal hop rounding out the aroma, a very rich and pleasant IPA smell is produced overall. Taste – The taste begins with caramel, sweet, doughy taste mixed with a whole lot of tangerine and orange. Some grapefruit is present at the start as well, with it gaining intensity up to the middle of the taste. Once the grapefruit maximizes, other hop flavors of a resinous pine and herbal flavor start hitting the tongue. While these start out lighter, they increase to the end, with the combination of the two overpowering the grapefruit when all is said and done. The sweetness, all the while, fades a bit (but not too much) with the caramel being the most pronounced loss. In the end, a light alcohol taste and a bit of earth come to the tongue, producing a very citrus fruity and resinously hopped taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is rather thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The feel is very nice for the mix of citrus and resinous flavors, bathing the tongue in all the rich and complex flavors of the brew. These flavors and light alcohol taste are even further accentuated by the lighter carbonation, with the combo of body and carbonation creating a very nice sipper. Overall – This is one very tasty double IPA. The rich complex flavors delight the taste buds as they glide upon and then linger on the tongue. Very nice.

Piney, passion fruit hop aroma with notes of caramel. Copper appearance with good head retention. Passion fruit hop flavor upfront which seems to add a sweetness with notes of resin from the piney hops. Malt includes notes of caramel. Body is medium with medium carbonation. Overall, it's a good double ipa with interesting passion fruit notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour is honey gold in color, off white fluffy head that has great retention and lacing. Aroma is a tropical fruit bomb: pineapple, orange, grapefruit, peach, mango. It’s very sweet smelling, with a slight bready malt backbone present. Taste follows the nose, but with a much stronger malt presence here: sweet bready malts abound. It’s a great balance of hop and malt. Body is medium, mouthfeel is sticky and lip-smacking good. Exactly what I love in a west-coast DIPA. So good!

22 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy reddish gold with a medium creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet caramel malt, fruits and piney resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet caramel malt with fruity, resiny, piney hops that are quite bitter and some residual alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, an excellent hop bomb of a DIPA.

Tasted on 11/6/14 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle purchased at the Calmart in downtown Calistoga. Pours clear burnt orange, auburn with a thick beige head that slowly settles into thick, rocky lace, leaving some lacing along the inside of the glass. The nose is super dank green hops with an almost savory herbal aroma, and a bit of lightly sweet toasted bread. The flavor is a bit more sweet than I expected on the nose, but the savory herbal, super dank, and lightly vegetal hops bitterness balances the unexpected sweetness very well. The body is full and oily with average, stinging carbonation, and a ridiculously long dank, green, and savory herbal bitter hops finish.

"Man...another great entry into the double ipa style. this one’s big all around, with a great piney nose, nice body, heavy flavors of hops and malt, and a dry bitter finish. You’ll want another."
