Chewy, chewy red that is about half way to a porter. Mahogany? Really enjoy this. With al the malts and all the hops the finish just goes on forever. Mmmm good.

Thanks to jeffc666 for this one! Reddish brown body. Small tanned head. Very citrusy and hoppy nose. The tongue is met with a hoppy orange, and malt mix. There is somesweetness lingering in there and it makes it's appearance during the finish as well, along with, yep, hops. Good beer!

Pours a deep, amber with hints of redness. A frothy tannish-white head develops, leaving ample gobs of lace trailing down the glass. The aroma is complex; sweet caramel raising bread toast, fruity cough-drop deeply enveloped in toastiness. Piney hops are also quite apparent. Bold, sweet up front, rich mouthfeel. Alcohol lingering on the palate, not hiding but residing. Creamy, caramel malts and a creeping hoppy finish that closes with a lustrous flourish. Beauiful ale.

A nice red hue and a frothy tan head. A very pleasant hoppy aroma that is pine and floral in nature. Nice balance between the hops and the malt, with a great mouthfeel. A very nice beer; very drinkable.

1/25/04. Poured out of 22 oz. bottle, bought at Liquorama in Upland, CA 12/5/03. Pours a deep, clear crimson amber, very fluffy off-white head with very good lacing. Aroma is quite nice, a little bit like a fruity barley wine-- berries, some cream, cake, and a little bit of spice. Flavor is pale and creamy malts, still a little cakey, and a hint of hop bitterness along with the lightly drying red/amber spice. Very good stuff. Very smooth, lighter-than-water mouthfeel with medium-thin body and creamy texture. Finish pumps up the bitterness a touch and extends medium-long with a cool malt hum-- a little bit of smokiness even. Somewhat sticky on the lips. Quite a good brew, very easy-drinking and enjoyably unique in flavor. Another solid one from Bear Republic.

Nice fresh hop nose. Palate is fruity, malty, hoppy, & smoky. Finish is smooth and flavorful. Bad name and label.

Big hop taste that poured like a stout. Very unique malt taste. Not being a brewer, I don't know what they did, but it worked. Smoky, mellow finish.

Very dark orangish red color with a fairly large off-white head. Extremely hoppy aroma with a hint of sweet malt. Flavor is not as strong as I would expect from the aroma, but consists of fairly strong grapefruit hopps bitterness and lightly malty flavors. Nice medium carbonation, and a fairly dry finish. Pleasant, but not quite what I expected.

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2004 Malty, fruity, spicy and hoppy aroma, heavy with brown sugar sweetness and mingling with butterscotch, cinnamon, tart orange, tangerine and grapefruit, caramel, milk chocolate, a slight roastiness, herbal, spicy hop and some faint yeast notes and woodiness. Deep, dark red-brown color, unfiltered but lacking much sedimentation, with a good-sized creamy, uneven, off-white head and spectacularly thick lacing. Malty, toasty and sweet to start, becoming tart and fruity with suggestions of orange, apricot and white raisin, and turning substantially earthy, hoppy, spicy and moderately bitter. Aftertaste is balanced and rather complex, all of the above ingredients just kind of hanging around for various intervals of time, showing a bit of aggressive hop here, some reddish malt there. Interesting mouthfeel, smooth and creamy but effervescent with the tiny bubbles creating an intriguing backdrop for the multitude of flavor attributes. Quite a unique beer, proving more difficult to rate than most, it's features somehow elusive yet prominent, like a sense memory that remains tantalizingly just out of reach...
