Excellent ale - nod to Scotland for sure - toasty malt very quickly tempered by great herbal hops - no hint of the highish abv - so easy to drink for a full bodied ale. Stratospherically above usual amber or Scottish. Very well done BR, love your work.

Bottle from Hay Wines, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Clear amber colour. Halo of pale tan head. Aroma is a fusty, caramel maltiness. A heavy hop background. Taste is dirty bitterness. Some fusty fruit. Back of the mouth, bitter finish. I’ve a feeling this isn’t as fresh as it ought to be.

Bottle - fair size foamy head, nice dark amber color, dry earthy hop aroma and flavor, with an almost smokey caramel malty backbone - very good, definitely much better than your typical amber ale

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Aroma is somewhat strong with sweet grain, syrup, pine and orange.
Taste has a bit of roasted malt, mainly consisting of bread, hops and citrus. Little oily but velvety overall on the mouth, with a bitter middle and finish.

FROM NOTES: August 7, ’12
On draft at the Yard House-San Jose, poured into a half-yard glass.
A: Faint aromas of sweet malt, lightly roasted caramel, mixed with an undertone of citrus hops.
A: Pours a deep, chestnut red with two fingers of substantial head that dissipates quickly and leaves heavy lacing.
T: Strong, bold floral and sweet flavors give way to a crisp and sharp hop bitterness in the finish.
P: Medium body and lively moderate carbonation, crisp and clean. It is an easy drinking beer with a nice flavor profile and is well balanced.
O: Fairly well balanced, but a little watery. Still a good beer, but definitely could do better.

Pint at the ’Biergarten’ at LaGuardia airport. Really deep, ruddy brown. unfiltered looking. Deep sweet brown caramel and brown sugar malting, with good hit of hops. Great brown ale, some fruit leather and chalky tobacco. Sweet finish with some fruit-pine hops. Solid drinker, big flavor.
