4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 cking (1175) - North Canton, USA - JUL 14, 2008
This beer is a gem, fantastic in all categories. Pours an opaque mahogany/dark brown color with a thick tan head and plenty of lacing. Aroma is a strong blend of grapefruit, citrus and burnt malts including hints of strawberries and black licorice. Sharp, malty mouth feel that quickly becomes pleasantly bitter. Full bodied with a smooth harshness. Intense and complex flavors with an upfront hop medley of pine and citrus. Musty-sweet toasted malts develop into a complexity of plums, coffee, toast, and molasses. Then the hops show up again in a longing aftertaste. This beer is a great marriage of styles, and it’s done in a wonderful fashion.

650ml bottle thanks to Dutchdrebus. Slightly hazy ruby red color, small lightly creamy off-white to beige head that leaves fair lacing. Smell pine, spruce, resin, hops, lightly some caramel. So much pine that it almost becomes sweet. Taste malts, hops, bitter, lightly dark chocolate to moccha, some blackberries as well. Pretty weird combination but combines nicely! Medium body and carbo.

Tastes of caramel, molasses, spice, and piney hops come in at the end. This is very good, certainly worth buying again.

Pours a very dark reddish brown color with a decent head. Big aroma of caramel malt and spicy hops. Taste is very malty and spicy, very good. Almost tastes like a barleywine. Finish is slightly dry and spicy, which remains on the tongue for a long time. A really good beer.

Pours a deep red, good amount of tan foam that leaves some lacing behind. Aroma is hoppy, strong wiff of alcohol. Taste is very hoppy, then sweet and malty. It actually tastes quite a bit like a barleywine only not as strong. Nice stuff.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Lagerboy (415) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 17, 2012
Clear red copper, foamy light brown head fades. Caramel malt and piney hop aroma. Strong piney resiny hop taste up front, balanced nicely by sweet caramel malts. Some fruitiness and nuts. Softly carbed, medium - full bodied, medium - heavy hopped. Very dry bitter finish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Bottle. This beer is now one of my favourite red ales. It has the lovely caramel malt sweetness with the added bonus of hop bitterness throughout and on the finish.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gusgus (202) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - MAY 14, 2012
Bottle from Bine & Vine, San Diego. No BB date. Pours copper with thin latte head that disappear quick. Medium to big aroma of pine, fresh peeled potatoe, lemons, grassy, haylike hops, slightly flowery and a hint of caramel and read fruits, like caramel apples, pear, plum and dried apricots.
Medium to dry body, lightly roasted malt with some toffee. Pine and grapefruits apparent, and finally some toast and roast as well as burnt raisins. Very nicely balanced and complex.
