Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. bottle: pour deep red with thin head. Smelled of hops and a slight carmel malt smell. Bit more to the bitter side than I like, but flavor had light carmel malts with strong bitter end. Pretty good.

Sampled with scottyp and curly. Pours a murky purple with good tan head and some large particulate. Nose is great caramel and dark citrusy dank hops. Very resinous bitter earthy hop flavor. Delicious beer.

Cask at Fat Heads in Pittsburgh. The cask temp helped this beer a ton. Aroma of caramel, hops, booze. Taste comes through nicely with definite caramel seeping along the palate. Hoppy taste, smooth and bitter finish, not too boozy, nice.

aroma is caramel malt and good hop pine with a light astringency and spirity booze note. appearance is glowing maroon, deep and dark. very pretty. flavor is excellent balance of well defined caramel and near toffee with big pine/resin backup. low or lack of citrus despite use of cascade (but none to the beers dismay). as beer opens nose moves more towards straight caramel.

From bottle@RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. A creamy tan hed resting on a red shaded, dark amber body. A pleasant whiff of caramel up front, along with a distinct citrus hoppy scent. Also some cheesy hop notes is coming though. Taste is rather vinous, bitter-sweet, slight caramelly with citrus notes. Mid-bodied. Hoppy finish. Ok beer, but lack unfortunatly some freshness, due to a light oxidation perhaps.

A very deep ruby body with a negligible dark tan head, very fruity (think plums) nose, and a strong hoppy flavor, but a complex finish

On tap at The Rake, Borough. Too sweet. But some good grapefruit hops. Took me an hour to drink this. But ended up liking it a lot. Sweetish, but very likeable.

bottle thanks to Treborwhip, pours dark amber with a tall light tan head. Aroma is light toast and alcohol with lots of nice hop notes. This is like a scotch ale amped up on hops. Nice sweet bready malts with tons of pine and citrus hop notes ending dry with lots of nice bitterness on the tongue. I really liked this......thanks Dad!
