UPDATED: NOV 20, 2010 Sample at Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. This brew is a copper-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lacing. Aroma of sour fruit, yeast and oak. Medium body with flavors of tart fruit, yeast, oak and malt. The finish is a little funky with a sour fruity aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Deep amber pour. Nose is lactic and a little bit earthy. A nice soft earthiness. A little bit peppery. A touch of light astringency and some nice peppery character. A touch of light funkiness. Lactic with a little bit of light cherry. It’s quite similar to the BA Grizz.

Taster on tap at Lackman. Clear golden color. Thin off-white head. Good ropes and dots of lace. Orange citrusy zesty aroma... Not necessarily sour, lightly tart maybe.. Just bretty. Moderate sweet, light tart, lightly spicy taste. Light to medium body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. Kind of crisp, easy-drinking, with a dry finish. Not bad, bretty ale.

On tap at Jackie O’s during the Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Poured a cloudy amber with a near white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a good amount of funk accompanied by some sour fruit and a bit of a wine note. Flavor had a building sour fruit note with some funk and a nice vinous wine backing.

On tap at Bar Great Harry. Pours a hazy ruby red with a small white head. Nutty toast, sour funk and a bit vegetal on the nose. Lots of caramel. Goes downhill really quickly moving into nutty acetone and horrendous old fruit. Nasty. Weird sourness, really tough to swallow.

On tap. Pours with a hazed amber-golden body with a thin and thick off-white head. Head lasts, nearly appears to be a nitro head. Aroma is fruity, floral, berries, lacto and wet leaves. Flavors are fruity, tart, sour, and still pretty bitter. Lots of florals, honey, and wood. Creamy bubbles, very smooth. Nice spontaneous beer.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a cream colored head. Tart/sour aroma with light oak. Acetic/sour flavor with malt and oak. Medium bodied. Oak lingers with acetic/sour notes and malt.

"dingadingdangdong!!! had this as a "nightcap" after the dipa fest at the bistro. they replaced the burton baton when it blew with this, and lucky me! if this is what is to come from BR dabbling with barrel aging, i’m excited. this just about held it’s own to Rodenbach Grand Cru! assertive but not overdone sourness, with a matching sweet cherry tartness and crazy complexity. great beer!!"
