One of the world’s classic sour beer styles, Tartare™ is Bear Republic’s interpretation of Berliner Weisse, the tart, low-alcohol beer style dubbed as "The Champagne of the North." Tartare won a Bronze medal at the 2011 Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer in the Wild Beer/Acidic category. Winner at 2013 Good Food Awards, Adventurous, Barreled, Big, Bawdy, & Belgian Beer Category

On tap at Churchkey during Night of the Living Ales. Huge sweettart lactic sour nose up front with some subtle graininess and very faint wood. Flavor is explosively tart and wonderful giving way to a nice wheat character and fruity notes. Really fantastic Berliner Weisse.

(Aug. 2013, draft at City Beer, SF) Has a yellow-gold, lightly hazy pour, looks a bit like carbonated pineapple juice. Aroma is wheaty, wheat cracker, tart, super light and fair honney, a hint of brett. Quite complex taste; pumpkin, bell pepper, very tart - there is this crackery vegetable-crispiness. Very sharp and saliva inducing. Ends on a rather weak german wheat beer note though.

Tap at GABF 2013. Poured a clear straw colour with a thin white head. The aroma is big acid sour. The flavour is strong sour with a big malt vinegar palate.

On tap at APEX, PDX. Visually, an impenetrable yellow shade with hardly any head at all. A big, bright lemony aroma jumps out of the glass. Super sour taste with plenty of white grape character. One of the most puckering beers I’ve ever encountered. Extremely tasty and refreshing.

Draft at bottleworks. Pours hazy straw color, very light with minimal white head. Aroma is funky, juicy, vinegar. Inviting. Taste: whoa tart - entire face puckering up front. Vinegar galore. Taste of vomit follows, which quickly and mercifully gives way to sweetened toasted grains. Light body, average carbonation, slick and mouth coating with lasting tart/sweetened Cheerios finish. Overall: I remember liking this one a lot more the last time for some reason. Also, not sure - is that vomit taste part of the typical Berliner Weiss flavor profile? I love sours and all, but vomit taste is pretty much an instant turnoff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
