UPDATED: JUL 3, 2010 Tap @ Saraveza... Poured a dark cola looking with a thick, off-white head that retained. Aroma of faint spices, yeast and such. Lots of spice on this brew. Even an earthy, peppery heat towards the finish. Slightly dry and cloying, but made up for it in yeast spiciness. Yeasty, doughy, cookie dough sweetness on the malts which paired nicely with the nutmeg/cinnamon spices.

Floral, powdery stout aroma with threatening alcohol overtones. Black, with a light tan head. Raisiny, pruney stout - sweet with moderate bitterniss and some licorice. Heavy, maybe medium-heavy body. Bitter, stewed fruit finish. A big beer. Tap, Flying Saucer, KC.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Dark brown pour with a thin tan head and very light carbonation. Mildly roasty and rather spicy aroma with a lot of sugar sweetness. Spice and nuts with a big sweet and syrupy flavor at the start with s very nice dark fruit, dark malt and lightly spiced finish. Goes down smooth for nearly 10%.

Enjoyed on tap at The Stable. This is as big a brown ale as I can remember having. It looks quite distinctive with a big thick head on a dark caramel colored body. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar and caramel along with some fruit. Flavor is also quite sweet with lots of alcohol noted. Plenty of sugary caramel. Too high of an ABV is a drawback for me but lovers of bigger beers will enjoy this one.

(Draught) Pours a dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of vinous, cocoa, roasted grain, raisins, black licorice, molasses, and light smoke. Flavor of dates, wood, yeast, and roasted malt with mild bitterness in the finish.

Draft @ Blind Tiger. Brown pour with some tan head. Spices, sweet fruit malt, sugars, and yeast aromas. Flavor is of nutmeg, cinnamon, sweet fruit through the malt, and some alcohol warming.

Draft, pours a bruin body with an off whit head. Cinnamon with a light malt body caramel and a modest warming. Belgian yeast and ginger. Light fruit esters spicy and fruity with again a modest warming. Decent.

Tried it at the brewery... Dark brown color, and slightly sweet taste with flavors of bread, molasses. First belgian type beer ever tried from Bear Republic. Drinkable, but nothing exciting.

Tap at BT. Pours a deep dark hazy brown with a thinning head. Aroma is a bit minty earthy bubblegummy phenolics, Belgian yeasty character, toffee, dry roast and toast with some chocolate tones, vanilla, and brown baked/toasted malts- some cookiedough. Flavor is a touch fruity with earth, mineral and sweet nutty chocolate malts, more phenolic slight plastic notes, leather, and some menthol crystal slightly offwith a slight buttery thing going on and cherry cola on the finish. Strange and a bit off overall.
