Floral, powdery stout aroma with threatening alcohol overtones. Black, with a light tan head. Raisiny, pruney stout - sweet with moderate bitterniss and some licorice. Heavy, maybe medium-heavy body. Bitter, stewed fruit finish. A big beer. Tap, Flying Saucer, KC.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Strykzone (3816) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - APR 26, 2009
Enjoyed on tap at The Stable. This is as big a brown ale as I can remember having. It looks quite distinctive with a big thick head on a dark caramel colored body. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar and caramel along with some fruit. Flavor is also quite sweet with lots of alcohol noted. Plenty of sugary caramel. Too high of an ABV is a drawback for me but lovers of bigger beers will enjoy this one.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - MAR 23, 2009
Draught at the brewpub. Dark opaque brown with a beige head. Yeasty, brown sugar, molasses and pear aroma. The flavor is sweet and yeasty, with brown sugar, bubble-gum, and clove spiciness. Thick and sticky body. Overall just on the sweet, sticky, yeasty side. Drinkable, but could use better attenuation.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ChapelThrill (52) - California, USA - APR 1, 2009
Tried it at the brewery... Dark brown color, and slightly sweet taste with flavors of bread, molasses. First belgian type beer ever tried from Bear Republic. Drinkable, but nothing exciting.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAY 5, 2010
Tap at BT. Pours a deep dark hazy brown with a thinning head. Aroma is a bit minty earthy bubblegummy phenolics, Belgian yeasty character, toffee, dry roast and toast with some chocolate tones, vanilla, and brown baked/toasted malts- some cookiedough. Flavor is a touch fruity with earth, mineral and sweet nutty chocolate malts, more phenolic slight plastic notes, leather, and some menthol crystal slightly offwith a slight buttery thing going on and cherry cola on the finish. Strange and a bit off overall.
