ross (1562), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jun 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours out a nice golden color with a white head on it. Smell is sweet and fruity, with some noticable hops in it. Taste is very drinkable, semi sweet, with some nice hops in it. Not sure why I have never had this one before, but I am glad I finally did. A very underrated brewery in my opinion. This one goes very well on a summer day, enough alcohol to not make you hot, and can be served cold enough that it becomes easy to almost chug.
rkuhnel (1146), Eureka, California, USA Oct 13, 2008 This was not a fresh bottle as it has been in my cellar for over two years and I keep overlooking it. Poured a rich orange color with a nice foamy white head and good lacing rings. Nose still smells fresh, however, and is of citrus hops and caramel malts in good balance. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is nicely bitter with some pine as well. Long bitter finish. This may not have been fresh but it held up well. I will have to get a new bottle and try it again though I felt this was excellent. marcus (1055), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 12, 2008 This golden orange ale poured with a large fluffy off-white head and a floral aroma. Hop bitterness dominates the flavor and palate, although there is a decent soft malt base. This is not an exceptional beer, but it is just fine if you’re in a hophead mood and don’t want to get too wasted. Indulgence (124), Ajo, Arizona, USA Oct 10, 2008 One of the more perfect Pale Ales around, bar none... IMHO... strong aromas of sweet citrus from the hops, almost like opening a box of Fruit Loops... the look is awesome for the style, huge bulging head, lacing is very sticky, the head remains throughout the length of the beer... flavors are sweetened hops, very balanced... palate is light, but far from watery, it is just right considering the alcohol level and gravity... overall, this is a brilliant session beer, enjoy a 22oz’er and not get schnockered... Bear Republic has to be one of my most favorite breweries... keep it up! dmtroyer (370), Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 22oz. Pours a lovely dark golden orange color with an orange head. Nose is quite lovely! Relatively aromatic with some serious sweet malt and grapefruit action. Body is even more complex, showing well-balanced hop attributes (bitter citrus, sweet citrus, pine) with a nice little dash of spearmint. Body is almost perfect, light but possibly just a bit too soft. This was a great surprise, I could see myself coming back to this one. FishManLA (182), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Sep 23, 2008 Pours an orange/amber with a smalish off-white head that dissipates fast but leaves decent lacing. Nose of malt with a sweet grape almost white wine like quality. Taste is a nice balance of malt and hop with notes of grape and apple. Finish is of that hoppy variety rather common in good American ales. A tasty and enjoyable brew.
