COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate aromas gradually become apparent in this rich creamy amber ale. The lingering bitterness melts the caramel body into a pleasant and dry finish.

Pours a dark amber with a creamy head and a slight chocolate aroma. This bottle seems over carbonated and its very overpowering in the taste. A nice balance of malts with very mild flavours but not really my cup of tea

Close to giving something different, but unfortunately trips at the last leg. Solid malt body of caramel and bread with a solid hop bite, but the hops fade quickly and the malt overruns it, without giving a second wind to the flavours preceeeding. Still a decent milding brew from a decent brewery.

Bottle 330ml. Very enjoyable and complete. Aromas of caramel, with a hint of chocolate. Taste has a sweet start, with bitterness taking over, and good length. Palate is velvety, with a medium body. Amber, with a frothy head.

330ml bottle. Teak copper in colour with a flat even layer of tan foam. Soft chocolate and caramel aroma is impressive and builds the anticipation. The flavour is mellow with mildbitterness and a subtle hint of chocolate comes through. A good all rounder.

Bottle. Same issue with the gushing. Ended up with most of the beer on the bench, What I did get in the glass was a really nice deep amber with a huge rookie creamy coloured head. Would be a great looking beer i suspect if the foaming issues were resolved. Great aromas of light caramel and some resiny hops. Good stuff. Flavours show a great mix between sweet light caramel and good hop bitterness. Mouthfeel with a little thing with minimal carbonation though I suspect this is down to the foaming issues. Would have been a good beer if not for the difficulty getting it into the glass.

The initial pour is horrific - if you survive removing the cap, you are only rewarded with a glass full of foam that takes some 15 minutes to subside and a pair of ringing bloody ears. Eventually, it does subside, and I’m left with 3 inches of honeycomb like head and 3 inches of dull lifeless beer. This is absolutely horrendous presentation. The last time I saw this much head I was six years old and making spiders from ice-cream and fizzy raspberry drink. That being said, artistic folk may enjoy the opportunity to create some fine beer foam sculptures. I’m tempted to enter mine in the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. This one, I like to call Pyrocumulus Aleius. After all that, it’s a nice amber colour. It smells of toffee, prune, 2 cent coins and fresh bread. Style-wise, it’s bang on. The palate is rich and malty, with good weight and a lovely texture. Perfect balance. The clever use of bittering hops adds to the length and overall experience. It’s somewhat reminiscent of a nice English bitter. Presentation aside, it’s a ripper.

Amber with a tight beige head. Low bead. Smells of singed caramel, nuts and pine. Tastes of that plus powdery chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel. Balanced and pretty tasty with a light fresh hop finish. Very gluggable.

From a 330ml 9/6/2010. Though labelled an amber ale, it doesn’t smell or tatse like one - has more of an APA character. The aroma is fruity hops, a touch floral with a bit of caramel. In the mouth, you get fruity sweetness, with some herbal notes, and a big, lasting hoppy finish. Very enjoyable.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2011 The first bottles I had from this brewery were pretty dire, but this one is much improved. Initial blood and bone/compost stink disappears pretty quickly, followed by a ridiculous amount of crystal malt. Way too much for my taste, but they manage to keep it tasting relatively fresh and light, unlike most others. Pretty esters and enough US hop flavour to keep it interesting, and the mouthfeel hasn’t been turned into a thick, sweet crystal malt soup. Overcarbonated. Surprisingly tasty stuff.
RR: Tap at The Grand. The brett is back. Dire stuff. I’ve had far more misses than hits from this brewery. Avoid.
