Dark ale with a dry aroma and an initially dry flavour with a malty finish. Overall a nice hopped bitter.

Bottle Conditioned by Leek Brewery. BBE July 04. From beersofeurope. Soft copper appearance. Mmmm. Tasty and fragrant. The flowery hops dance delicately on top of a juicy base. Nicely balanced all the way through - neither the malt nor the hops dominating. The malt does peep forward early in the finish, but then the hops take over to provide a lingering dry ending. Just as I was about to give up in despair over Leek’s ability to bottle condition along comes this beauty. It might have helped that I didn’t stick this bottle in the fridge - a silly habit I have picked up recently.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2007 Appealing copper colour. A quite malty aroma and flavour, but plenty of tangy hop bite to offset the malt. Dry finish. A well made and well balanced bitter. 500ml bottle (bottle conditioned) from beersofeurope.co.uk

Bottled. Amber with a smooth white head. Forward hoppy aroma, which is generous, clean and distinct. Restrained malts are dominated by fruity, hoppy flavours. Moderate, clean bitter finish that has some silky qualities.

Cask Conditioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Pale golden beer with little head. Light fruity malts with apple, orange refreshing flavours. Sharp and acid finish, quite balanced, good drinking light ale.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 bierkoning (8099) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - AUG 31, 2003
Cask, Black Bull Cockkermouth. Blonde like a Czech pilsener, slightly cloudy. Hardly any aroma, or maybe the wind has blown it away (I was sitting in a windy beer garden). Sweetish, citrusy and malty like a Crombé, but with less hop character. Grapefruity, hoppy aftertaste. Nice summer beer.
