Tawny beer with malt & fruit in the taste leading to a clean and uncompromisingly bitter hop finish.

Bottle Conditioned by Leek Brewery. BBE July 04. From beersofeurope. Soft copper appearance. Mmmm. Tasty and fragrant. The flowery hops dance delicately on top of a juicy base. Nicely balanced all the way through - neither the malt nor the hops dominating. The malt does peep forward early in the finish, but then the hops take over to provide a lingering dry ending. Just as I was about to give up in despair over Leek’s ability to bottle condition along comes this beauty. It might have helped that I didn’t stick this bottle in the fridge - a silly habit I have picked up recently.

Cask@Spoons in 2010. Copper colour, small, but steady off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some nuttyness as well as some mild wooden notes. Flavour is nutty, caramel malty, mild wooden and some slight crisp maltyness as well. Pleasantly balanced. Good session bitter.

A Mes rate: cask at Baker St ’Sporks.
Clean golden colour with a slight brown tinge and a thin off white head. No sparkler! This place is definitely on the up... This is actually really good. A very well balanced blend of big grassy hops with a good citric bite on top of a well behaved biscuit malt base with just a slight hint of caramel. Lovely mineral note in the finish with a restrained but classy dryness on the palate. Superbly drinkable. A really good drop of English. I only stopped in for a quick one on my way home after a few Chimays with Alan but this was a really pleasant surprise. Served in very good condition (as is increasingly the case at this place) and certainly one of the best I have had from Beartown. Yum.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2011 Cask at Wetherspoons, Chippenham, also bottled from Beartown shop. Light brown / copper, well carbonated (bottle). Strong malt aroma, becoming a tasty but not overpowering fruitiness, slight hint of fruit cake. Good balance of bitterness/flavour.

Cask at the Market Porter. Spicy aroma. Dark amber color with a white head. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Flavor is likely caramel malt, but it’s strongly overlaid with hottish spice - not pepper - ginger? Something like that. Really refreshing.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2007 Appealing copper colour. A quite malty aroma and flavour, but plenty of tangy hop bite to offset the malt. Dry finish. A well made and well balanced bitter. 500ml bottle (bottle conditioned) from beersofeurope.co.uk

Bottled. Amber with a smooth white head. Forward hoppy aroma, which is generous, clean and distinct. Restrained malts are dominated by fruity, hoppy flavours. Moderate, clean bitter finish that has some silky qualities.

Cask at Malt Shovel, Spondon. copper orange head with scant head. Good fruit smack steals through the hop crunch, malts are a bit of a wallflower in this relationship, a reasonably rugged bitter.

A reddish coloured rather pleasant bitter.Soft and gentle with a pleasing hoppiness. Certtainly one of the more ditinctive bottle conditioned beers I have tried recently and well worth checking out.

Gravity, 3rd Hinckley BF. Oooh, ’slight haze’ says the sign on the cask. Like I give a shit. Fully clouded, headless bronze but the aroma and flavour are there. This is a ringer for Corfu Real Ale Special believe it or not; bright apricot and violet-accented floweriness over a bittersweet, nut-hinting digestive biscuit base. Hints of mushroom and chocolate; flowery, jellied orange fruit aroma. Hops and malts dovetailed sweetly. Excellent.
