COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned by Leek Brewery.
Extremely smooth strong dark ruby mild. Subtle roast and malt flavours fill the taste, with a mellow sweetish finish.

Cask @ New Oxford, Bexley Sq, Salford - 31/03/07. A dark beer with a creamy head which disappeared after a while. The beer has a choclatey taste to it, not too bitter and not too sweet too. Just as a mild should be!

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2004 Bottle conditioned by Leek Brewery. BBE July 04. Leek are doing a lot of bottle conditioning for other breweries, but they are not doing them any favours because they are clearly not skilled at the craft. This is a stout spoiled by the sharp edge of poor conditioning. [2.7]
Frog & Toad Bonfire Festival. Wow - intense fresh roasted coffee aroma. Coffee, vanilla ice-cream and strawberry flavours. Quite delicious! This is certainly a beer to be drunk from the cask. World Class! [4.1]

Is it a mild or a sout? I would go for the later.Black rather than ruby as mentioned on the bottle. It had a distinctive almost smokey aftertate.Dry and refreshing. I would certainly recommend it.

Gravity cask at the Battersea Beer Festival, 8th Feb 2008. Deep chestnut colour. Great aroma of cherries and raspberries. Complex flavour of chocolate, roast malt, hops, liquorice and gooseberries. Palate is smooth but the finish is short, otherwise this would be a 4+. Very tasty stuff!

Cask conditioned - handpump - JDW, Northampton. Wow, what an interesting beer this is. Black with whitish head and lacing. The aroma is really fruity. Citrus and sherbert notes in the nose. And then you get mild roasty flavours and orange fruits in the mouth. Nice hops and good sweetness too. Very drinkable.

Cask at County Hotel (JDW) Ashford, I certainly agree with SilkTork’s 2nd review when experienced as cask. Dark ruby in colour, the nose is chocolate and toffee in nature, with some coffee. Strangely over carbonated on the mouthfeel, but the finish is excellent with good chocolate malt. Slightly grainy and roasted, but I really liked it. Definitely worth having a 2nd pint

Cask at GBBF, 2011. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Toffee, caramel and a little vanilla aroma. Vanilla and caramel flavour with a heavy malt presence. Quite dry. Nice.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2009 deep deep red/brown coloured ale with a sour nose and a choclaty sour flavour... 2.5TK cask at JDW.. much better deep brown ... thin firm tan head ... roast malts and good fruit ... little blackberry litte licorice.

Cask at the Victoria Station JDW. Chestnut with a compact beige head; rich and malty aroma; sweet earthy malt flavour with a touch of licorice and coffee; dry tingly finish with an underlying and lasting bitterness. More a Porter than a Mild in my opinion.

Cask@GBBF2011. Black colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruits, roasted malts, some liquorice and mild toasted and syrupy notes. Flavour is quite much the same with also some ashes and mild riped fruity notes.
