Extremely smooth strong dark ruby mild. Subtle roast and malt flavours fill the taste, with a mellow sweetish finish.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2004 Bottle conditioned by Leek Brewery. BBE July 04. Leek are doing a lot of bottle conditioning for other breweries, but they are not doing them any favours because they are clearly not skilled at the craft. This is a stout spoiled by the sharp edge of poor conditioning. [2.7]
Frog & Toad Bonfire Festival. Wow - intense fresh roasted coffee aroma. Coffee, vanilla ice-cream and strawberry flavours. Quite delicious! This is certainly a beer to be drunk from the cask. World Class! [4.1]

Cask, Ship and Mitre, Liverpool. Deep dark brown colour with a small tan head. The nose had notes of roasted malt and dark chocolate. Flavour had more roasted character with notes of oatmeal, dark fruits and bready malts. Dried out towards the finish. Maybe a little thin, but drinkable.

Cask. Deep brown color with minimal head. The nose is of roasted malts, chocolate, cherries and aniseed. The taste is mellow and sweet. The body’s medium and a bit oily, the finish long and somewhat savory. A nice comforting mild ale.

Cask at the Victoria Station JDW. Chestnut with a compact beige head; rich and malty aroma; sweet earthy malt flavour with a touch of licorice and coffee; dry tingly finish with an underlying and lasting bitterness. More a Porter than a Mild in my opinion.

Cask at The Great Spoon of Ilford (JDW), Ilford, England.
Dark reddish brown (almost black) colour with small frothy tan head. Dark hops, dark fruitiness and plum in aroma. Delicious dark fruits, dark hops, grain and toasted malt in flavour. Thinnish but otherwise nice Ale.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a lovely, rich ruby-brown with a creamy, light beige cap. Nose holds underripe berries and just hints of roasted malts. Lightly sweet flavor, some dark fruits, a little burnt toast. Light in body with fine carbonation. Finish has some woody notes, bit of sugar and subtle roast. Easy drinking, alright beer.
