COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - November to January (but sometimes appears at other times too). Also available bottled.
Deep copper coloured, strong bitter. Packed full of malty character and dry, lingering hoppy finish. Not too sweet as some stronger ales are.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Golden amber with a small white head. Grassy hop aroma with some buttery malt developing. Delicious sweet malt taste with some spicy nuttiness in the background as well as some sour fruits. Mid bitter finish. Mixed messages on this bear. I thought it was a cracker: so much better than Ginger Bear, presently representing Beartown in the ’Spoons fest.

A Sim rate (Gravity cask at Pembury Tavern): Aroma of caramel, maple syrup, golden syrup and marmalade. Golden colour with a relatively impressive head. Malty, creamy, bitter flavour. Some vanilla, some cream. Hmm.... it’s banana cream. Not a great finish though.

Cask@The Pembury tavern. This was an averagely drinkable slightly stronger bitter. Typical earthy balance between hops and malt, some light caramel and grainy malt notes, subtle hops in the finish, some light bitterness, drinkable.

Cask handpull at Thomas Rigby, Liverpool. Pale chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Bit of sickly malt on aroma, but mostly rich strawberry/raspberry and malt aroma. Full in mouth with more strawberry, morphs into creamy hop finish. Hop is balancing and shows some lemon acids to do battle with the rich malt. Rich and hoppy premium bitter and rather stunning.

Pint in the Harker Arms, Chester. Great amber colour with a creamy head. Tangy fruitness and very smooth to drink. This is my second beer from this brewery and im very impressed.

Cask Conditioned, at the Market Porter, Borough, London .
Amber, malty ale, not in the best condition (something was wrong at the Porter yesterday, the cellman must have been on holiday). A very plain beer indeed. Only just in my opinion.

Cask (handpump), Brunswick Inn, Derby, July 2005. This is supposed to be a winter beer, so I’m not sure what it was doing out and about in the middle of summer. Perhaps its brewed occasionally at other times or is now a regular beer. Anyway, this is a mid brown, quite full bodied strong bitter at the malty end of the spectrum. Caramel and toffee dominate, with plenty of underlying hoppy bitterness. Despite what’s in the brewery’s description, I did find some residual sweetness which detracted from the appeal for me. Still a decent beer but perhaps it didn’t show at its best on a hot day.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Brunswick Derby. An amber to mid brown coloured beer. The aroma is malty with maybe a little toffee. The taste is crunchy and malty and maybe a little creamy in texture. Tasty.
