2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ungstrup (23918) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 8, 2006
A deep red beer - almost brown - with a huge light brown head. The aroma is acidic, fruity and roasted. While the flavor balances between sweetness and acidity with notes of roasted malt and hints of butter, leading to a dry end. The mouthfeel is slightly sticky.

Sampled cask conditioned at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden.
Dark brown with an obvious aroma of black currant winegums. Sweet and estery. Mildly malty with soft mouthfeel. Despite the rather strong black currant flavour it doeesn't go overboard, and manages to stay quite enjoyable. A true oddity.

2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 harrisoni (10069) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 24, 2007
Cask gravity at Kent BF, Canterbury. Very deep ruby colour, with disappearing tan head. Sour, sour vinegar/old ale aroma. Surprisingly good in mouth and the choc rescues it, then lovely espresso coffee on finish. Terrible aroma, but rest is good. Funnily enough someone else had it 2 days later and it was a lot better.

Cask Stillage at the Memorial Hall, Northwich 20/09/2003
Black beer, very sweet blackcurrant flavour dominates. This eventually gives way to some roast malt in the lasting finish.

A Mes rate:
Gravicask at Kent Beer Festival. Black red colour with a nice consitency. Fantastic dark chocolate malt in the nose with some liquorice, coffee and a really pleasing sourness. More roasty in the mouth with an unusual sweet and sour finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 4, 2006
Cask (handpump) at the Carlton Arms, Cambridge, May 2006. Very dark, very fruity. I’ve tried a few British dark fruit beers and generally complained that the fruit character is not sufficiently evident. No such criticism here. In fact it leans a bit too far in the other direction for me. The heady fruitiness rather overpowers the stout element making for a beer that is, in one sense, quite delicious but, in another, rather unbalanced. It all ends up just a touch too sweet and sticky. Despite that, I found this beer rather enjoyable.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 leaparsons (6323) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - FEB 10, 2004
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2005 Cask, Derby Fest 04. Very much a panda looking beer - very black with a very white head. Aromas are sweet oats and coffee. Flavours also have that oatiness, with lots of sweetness and sourness to finish. The palate is very smooth. Far too sweet for me, hence the low score. Good name, though.
