COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned by Leek Brewery.
Golden coloured wheat beer which slides down far too easily for it's gravity. Crisp, floral & citrus notes dominate the finish.

Cask Handpump at The Wellington, Birmingham. Golden, slightly cloudy at first, with a very short head. Slight smokey-citrus scent, wheat flavour and a very slight bitterness. Very watery.

1. Cask Stillage at the Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt, Liverpool 24/02/2001 Mildly smooth on the palate with some wheat flavours. Slightly bitter aftertaste. 2. Cask Stillage (Take Out) at the Albion Ale House, Clayton Le Moors 19/07/2001 Straw coloured with some sour fruit flavours and a hop finish.

Cask@The Magpie&Crown, Brentford, London. Wheat beers always taste a bit funny on cask to me. This was more of an American wheat to me, in that it showed a bit of floral hop in the aroma and in the flavour. Wheaty and then hoppy, on the dry side, doesn’t quite come together, but its still drinkable.

Cask at Babington Arms, Derby. Only a hint of haze to the light gold body, just a whiff of wheat too, all very subtle. As a wheat beer it’s found wanting, no bite to it at all, but as a light/pale refreshing ale it’s OK - fairly citirc, pleasingly sweet notes, bit of bitter left at the end. Not bad.

Bottled. Hazy gold in appearance. Aromas are sweet pine hips and wheat. Flavours are sweet grain, wheat and pone with caramel malt body. Quite viscous in mouthfeel with a dry finish. Not a true wheat beer - it lacks the acidicy of other English wheats.

A soft gentle beer lacking the harshness of some traditional wheat beers. Bottle conditioned it struck me as a cross between a wheat beer and a bitter. A real craft beer well worth trying.

Bottle conditioned by Leek brewery. Citric floral aroma with a touch of the rose garden. Darkly bitter with a balancing juicy citric buzz. Apples. Pears. Very decent. Clean, crisp, flavoursome, tangy and hugely decent. Nice one.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2004 500ml bottle (bottle conditioned) from beersofeurope.co.uk. Generous white head that lasts quite well. Bright gold colour when poured carefully. Very bitty once the lees are poured in (which I did later on) - more particulate than cloudy. Citric aroma with hints of peaches and melons. The wheat is subtle, almost to be point of being undetectable. Quite light bodied. Distinctly dry and crisp but lacks any great depth of flavour. As Spiesy noted, there is a bittersweet tang at the finish and it doesn’t come over very strongly as a wheat beer - more like a cross between a blonde ale and a bitter. Curious, but very pleasant.

Bottled. Blond with a large, gushing white head. Sweet, English rose aroma. Sweet, dry, bitter flavour. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer which is more like a pale ale then a wheat beer.
