BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 12, 2003 Appearance is a misty (not hazy) golden beige color very unique to triples and saisons. Head was initially very carbonated but settled down quick, the lacing stayed around to say hi. The carbonation bubbles from the bottom were facinating to watch as they formed a moat of cyclic head. Aroma is is sweet and complex with notes of bubblegum, banana, clove, spice, and lots of citrus (aprichot). The yeast nose is one of the best ever, almost like the smell of a bakery brewing a wonderful fresh batch of sourdough bread. Flavor is initially very tart and sour with and ends with barnyard, slightly salt and not overly complex. There are notes of cider and white wine in this too, hmm. I really love the similarities this has to a well formed saison with notes of banana and yeast to still remind you that it's not. Wonderful!
fordest (1857), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 Shared from a 750 ml bottle. Brownish pour with malty sweet aromas. Dark fruit flavors and more molasses and malty sweet flavors. Pretty good. Ughsmash (3148), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2008 Thanks to Dr. Bill (I believe) for bringing this to RBSG! Poured hazy darker brown with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma was dusty and very woody with some rich caramel, toffee, and darker fruits in there.. very well oxidized and going downhill, but still enjoyable. The flavor devolved even more dramatically with slightly sour cardboard and medium-skinned fruits at the core and a long-ish finish with fruity bitterness and some sours. Low carbonation and dry on the palate with an OK feel.. probably a shadow of its former self, but Im grateful for the opportunity to try it! Odeed (1506), Bakersfield, California, USA Aug 3, 2008 orange body with a off-white head.i picked up alcohol, wine type flavors, and caramel in the flavor and aroma. kmweaver (2273), Nicaragua Jun 16, 2008 750mL bottle, courtesy of jjpm74. Thanks, John! Pours a hazy, orange / tangerine color; off-white head with patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Sweet caramel, Belgian sugars, and some oxidation in the aroma; slightly messy nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy dry caramel, Belgian sugar, and toasted malts; touch of warming caramel coming through; a bit messy at this point. Medium finish: dry caramel, toasted malts, and a touch of lingering Belgian sugar; a bit light around the edges. jjpm74 (3447), Connecticut, USA Jun 15, 2008 Pours copper with a decent white head. Smells of horseblankets, hay, straw, lysol. Tastes like a liquid cleaner with some hints of dry malt on the finish.
