4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - FEB 26, 2003
750 ml bottle, no discernible date. Hazy luminous golden color, gorgeous, with a large bubbly snowy head that diminishes quickly to a 1/4" meringue topping. Nose exceedingly sharp/sour, gueuze-like, sour apples & grapes, light nilla wafer notes, background of butterscotch malt; amazing! On the tongue, I'm hit immediately with sharp, peppery alcohol, sour apples again, but also an underlying sweetnes and that gueuze barnyard character. Finish is very dry and acidic. Light-medium body, easy to pour down but very challenging to really ENJOY. A great or near-great beer for sure, but words are really failing me here. You really have to try it yourself, really is not like anything else out there that comes to mind. Can't wait to try Vermeer and to age another bottle or two of this.

From notes. Hazy gold. White carbonation. Light colored fruits, earth, must, vinous notes, funk, sourness, woodsy. Dry, yeasty finish. Medium body is balanced. Funky golden ale now (07?) that tastes pretty good, would have liked to have a fresh sample to compare to.

Shared from a 750 ml bottle. Brownish pour with malty sweet aromas. Dark fruit flavors and more molasses and malty sweet flavors. Pretty good.

Thanks to Dr. Bill (I believe) for bringing this to RBSG! Poured hazy darker brown with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma was dusty and very woody with some rich caramel, toffee, and darker fruits in there.. very well oxidized and going downhill, but still enjoyable. The flavor devolved even more dramatically with slightly sour cardboard and medium-skinned fruits at the core and a long-ish finish with fruity bitterness and some sours. Low carbonation and dry on the palate with an OK feel.. probably a shadow of its former self, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to try it!

750mL bottle, courtesy of jjpm74. Thanks, John! Pours a hazy, orange / tangerine color; off-white head with patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Sweet caramel, Belgian sugars, and some oxidation in the aroma; slightly messy nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy dry caramel, Belgian sugar, and toasted malts; touch of warming caramel coming through; a bit messy at this point. Medium finish: dry caramel, toasted malts, and a touch of lingering Belgian sugar; a bit light around the edges.

Pours copper with a decent white head. Smells of horseblankets, hay, straw, lysol. Tastes like a liquid cleaner with some hints of dry malt on the finish.

Sampled at the O-Town throwdown. Poured slightly hazy straw color with tiny head. Sour and tart aroma with light lemon or other citrus and a hint of something medicinal. Flavor starts off nice and fruity then mild sourness enters followed by a slight medicinal note. Ends smooth with slight malt sweetness.

Hazy, hay colored. Sour aroma with a hint of cold tap water (chlorine?). Taste is not what I was expecting from the aroma. Light with a notable lack of sour notes. A part of the saison world and yet apart. In case you doubted, courtesy of Matta!
