COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Venskab (the Danish word for ‘friendship’) is the fourth beer release in Beau’s Friendship Series: beers designed and brewed in collaboration with other brewers we know and love. Self-proclaimed “Gypsy brewer” and luminary Anders Kissmeyer of Denmark’s Kissmeyer Beers conceived and created Venskab in collaboration with Beau’s All Natural’s brewmaster Matthew O’Hara.

History & Style
Venskab was brewed based on a Belgian Tripel style. It was hopped with German Perle and Belgian Cascade, and some bog myrtle was added into the kettle to add a herbal nuance. The beer was strengthened with some organic cane sugar added into initial fermentation, then during conditioning the beer aged on Southbrook Organic Ice Wine-soaked oak chips. Venskab was then aged in Canadian white wine barrels for several months. A final touch was the addition of yuzu, a Japanese citrus fruit, and then the beer was prepared for bottle conditioning with the introduction of Champagne yeast and priming sugar.

Tasting Notes
The Venskab experience is a symphony of aromas and flavours. On the nose expect tropical and citrus fruits (pineapple, Japanese yuzu), as well as hints of Sauvignon Blanc and oak. The flavours reflect the same with remarkable depth and complexity. Well-integrated alcohol makes its presence felt, as does a drying earthiness.

Food Pairings
Like a robust white wine, Venskab is a very versatile and food-friendly beer. Try it with lobster and garlic butter, rosemary-crusted Ontario lamb, or Cashel Blue cheese.

Almost certainly my favorite beer from an always interesting brewery! Pours dark straw, cloudy with a quickly fading head and minimal lacing. Nose is tropical fruit, pineapple, and maybe even some banana. Nose is also showing heavy white wine. Mouth is similar, but fruit seems darker. Alcohol come through perfectly, and I sense even heavier wine, ice wine I guess. Creamy body with lively carbonation. Really enjoyed this one!

(60 cl bottle #1220) Pours a semi-hazy golden with little, white head. Decent retention and regeneration. Beautiful lace. Aroma is complex with notes of citrus fruit, white wine grape juice, pepper and a hint of oak. Oily texture, soft carbonation, medium body and a dry, astringent finish. Flavour is vinous and largely compliant with aroma. A complex and surprisingly pleasant beer.

Bottle 60 cl. Bottle # 1182. Pours a hazy golden with a tiny white head. Gushes upon opening though - even if cold and settled. Lovely aroma, herbal and spicy, some Chardonnay barrel character - very complex. Rich, sweet body, very fruity, oranges, again these very complex notes that appear somewhat woody. A little heat in the finish. Very complex, very sophisticated, very enjoyable. 240413

2013-03-28. Hazy bright pastel yellow orange, nice creamy off white head and lace. 4+ Interesting aroma, mild wood, sweet fruit, lightly tropical notes, whispers of pear. 7+ Flavour is similar, modest wood character throughout, pleasant fruit, lingering dry wood and modest bitterness. Fruit is present but more obscured by the wood than in the aroma. 7+ Smooth average plus palate. 3++ Alcohol is very well hidden. 7/4/7/15+ Bottle shared by GregClow.

2013-03-29. No notes. Essentially the same as the previous bottle, oak seemed slightly more prominent and the beer seemed a bit less fruity overall. Bottle via trade with cfrancis. </I<

750ml bottle Pours a cloudy golden-yellow, with two inch off-white head. Nose is orange marmalade, caramel, pineapple, wine gums, coriander, floral perfume, white wine, oak, vanilla, and herbal, grassy aromas. Taste is biscuit malt, belgian yeast, gummi candy, sparkling wine, and sour citrus, followed earthy oak, sherry, and tobacco. As it warms up, I begin to notice the occasional aroma of smoked meats and sea salt. Mouth feel is creamy with good carbonation. Finish is medium-long, leaving orange, grapefruit and a touch of bitter hops. A very interesting and complex beer.
