Inspired by the Beaver River (rivière Castor), which connects Ottawa to many communities to the East, this IPA is designed to appeal to Hop Heads. Taking the malt and yeast profile of a traditional British style India Pale Ale and adding an American-style citrusy punch, our Beaver River is both assertive and drinkable. Beaver River is brewed with local spring water and the ingredients are 100% certified organic.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear amber with a pillowy beige head that leaves a slight lace. Aroma is more caramel than hoppy. Taste is light and sweet with little evidence of hop bitterness. Creamy body with lively carbonation.

A middling IPA. The hops are stale and grassy with a dirty mouthfeel and an overly sweet flavor of caramel at the beginning. Picked up in Toronto in 2013.

Bottle - Grassy and citrus hops. Clear copper with a foamy white head. Grassy hope, a nice balanced malt and bitter finish. A bit of spice and the malts really shine in the middle. A nice IPA.

Bottle to glass Aroma of cinnamon, grapefruit and hops; a tad skunky. Nice amber colour with a nice head but not great lacing. Taste is grapefruity and sweet with a long late bitterness.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2014 Russet pour with a picket white fence frothy cap that holds its ground. Doesn’t have the twang you’d expect from an ipa. Earthy & wise. Re-rate on 2014 edition with two week old bottle tells a better story than my first rating. I don’t know if has been rebooted or not but this is a stronger brew than what I remember. Will pick some more up on pay day.

600 ml bottle. Pours a mildly hazy amber with a significant but short-lived off-white head. Aromas are yeasty funk, bubblegum, and caramel. Taste is a nice bready backbone with a citrus punch. Medium body and carbonation with a long astringent finish. Pretty nice but a very different IPA. Malts are more present than what I’m used to.

Keg at Kick Off, Waterloo, Ontario, 28th April 2013. Not bad, a little too fizzy in the palate, drinks well though, the flavour is nice, not overly assertive, drinkable, but not my sort of IPA

Bouteille 600ml.
