Bottle number 0526. Beautiful dark brown pour with a thin brown head. Very clear. Aroma is malt, vanilla, light oak caramel. Some interesting vegetal notes throughout really enhance an already intense flavor. Very tasty. Good beer.

Cask pint at Burger Bar January 22, 2011 - monthly "Cask!" meet-up. Clear but still nearly opaque brown-black with decent creamy tan head. Smells a bit like a porter - roasty, more alcohol, nutty and syrupy (yes, seemed a bit sweet, more in the Baltic Porter vein) but some ameliorating herbal bitterness. Taste follows, strong, but not overpowering, still syrupy with an almost burnt malt character, but it’s not as sweet as it smells, significantly more herbal bitterness to balance it out - even resinous, nutshell bitterness too. Slick mouthfeel, midly carbonated, definitely alcohol in there, sneaky-strong, with a pleasantly long bitter finish, a bit of carbonized treacle in the aftertaste - good stuff! (didn’t want a second pint, though).

Pour deep murkyish brown with some light still coming through coffee brown head ok lacing. Aroma smells like a mix of a Belgian and wheat, chocolate, spices, bubble gum, dark fruit. Tastes very spicy, with earthiness galore, cinnamon, dark fruit, great bitterness, roastiness, nuttiness, all I can say is wow extremely complex. MF medium to full body with a prickly decent carb that works quite well. This beer is extremely well constructed and you can tell the labor and love that went into it. So complex it is still leaving me finding flavors even after I’m done drinking it. Outstanding.

22oz. Bottle (# 547 of 1000. Bottled 1/19/11): Got in trade from Sammy; THANKS Sammy! Aroma of raisin, burnt toast, slight cola, wheat, spices, and hints of malt, mint, and herbs. Poured mahogany/ruby/burnt sienna in color with a large, loose, tan/brown head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer. Cloudy. Opaque. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of malt, wheat, herbs, light banana, raisins, bubblegum, and spices. Medium body. Lightly dry, lightly sticky carbonation. Wheat, spice, herb, malt, light banana finish is lightly dry. Odd flavors. 8%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Bomber from the brewery via Lubiere (merci!), served cool in a tulip glass. 1030 JAN 20 11.
App.: Deep brown-black with a large mocha head.
Aroma: Dusty to start, then a bit hit of minty cola-like herbals, nice rich fruity malts, banana esters and other esters, a green, grassy note (fresh cut grass), other herbal notes, dark dried fruits, brown sugar, a touch of molasses, a little celery leaf?, then the playful esters come back. Nice stuff.
Palate: medium+ body, fairly lively effervescence.
Flav.: Lots of minty herbal notes and plenty of banana esters, still a good deal of dark malt notes, brown sugar, green bananas, some brighter fruit notes (restrained), dark dried fruits, a little yeast, different; almost dry with a bit of tang, modest bitterness and a long, rich brown sugar and dark rye bread crust finish with some banana.
Quite interesting. Definitely an improvement over the normal Bog Water.

A deep reddish brown ale with a thick receeding brown head. A nutty aroma, with herbaceous qualities, light coniferous notes, tropical fruit esters. In mouth, dark maple syrup, molasses, and taffy, woody, oily mouthfeel. Shared with GRM, March 10 2011.

Pours a dark brown with a fizzy almond head. Aroma is banana bread and heavy malt. Taste is interesting, raisins, malt backbone and a spice that I just can’t place, must be the myrtle. A little sweet that sits on your tongue.

On cask at C’est What? Appearance: pitch black with a small but long lasting tan head. Aroma: tanned leather, almost minty, old spice and peat. Flavour: wow, caramel, licorice, lots of malt, quite herbal, I agree with below, quite a ’banana bread’ feel and taste to it. Long banana and alcohol finish. Quite nice.
