I love it just for being so different. Nice light malt up front, maybe a hint of caramel (not much). Middle is more like dark fruits (plums, maybe even prunes). Finish is almost minty. Light in the mouth with almost no carbonation. Very interesting beer.

Bog Water is a wonderful combination of a sweet malty, carmel, Belgian-style dubbel ale with the almost minty bitterness of the bog myrtle. The lasting aftertaste is a bit more astringent (reminds me of nettle). On some sips I get slight hints of licorice.
From the bottle I would give it some time to flatten. Found it a bit too bubbly on first sip. Also drinks better at warmer temperatures.
Will taste side-by-side with Rochefort 10 soon and maybe adjust score up.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2012 Échantillon Mondial de la bière 2010. Bouteille 600 ml. Couleur brune foncé, mousse beige. Arôme de malt, houblons, un peu de fruits et levures. En bouche, fraîche, malt, fruits qui coupe la levure belge. Finale herbeuse, fruitée et tout s’arrête rapidement. Bonne beer.

Deep, cloudy ruddy pour with a thin white head. The aroma is great. Softly herbal and fruity with a lot of soft chewy character. Lots of myrtle aroma and flavour. It’s got a fairly decent bitterness and a lovely balance of flavours. A bit estery and fairly fruity. Soft and herbal. Pretty nice pint.

Taste : Spices with light bananas. Finish has nice notes of banana bread. Light bitterness.
Overall : Nothing to write home about but quite good. Nice banana bread notes. I thought this was a weizen.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at Mondial: Puts a turbid rusty-brown ale in the glass, small 1finger tan cap laces modestly.. Lightly carbonated. Pungent aroma: musty-toffee-citrusy-floral, dried fruit-herbs, spices, smoked almonds...wonderful mélange of aromas. Like a herbal brown ale. Flavor profile is almost replica of the aroma but more intense: toasty-nutty-toffee malts provide a base to balance off lemony-herbal bittering and a wonderful complexity of musty-spicy-malty-fruity-nutty flavors....long wet finish. This has a wonderfully quirky complexity that is sure to be misunderstood by unseasoned palates but for those who can appreciate the melding of a number of uncommon complimentary flavors, this is a brew you can relish and not be shy about having a couple.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at beerbistro - served in a goblet, came a plum shade with a beige head that lasted for about half the glass. Very malty aroma, but some woody spice and dark fruits in there as well. Flavour again quite malty, but herbal and spicy as well, earthy, almost Belgian seeming. Wonder if they used Belgian yeast for this one, because the Bog Water carries that complex undercurrent of flavours. Some red wine-like flavours in there too. A bit too boozy and sweet to be a beer you’d want to drink a ton of (and at 6.6%, that’s probably a good thing), but a beer to be sipped and savoured, and an intriguing, admirable experiment. Nice work.

Deep clear brown red, ring white foam. Mild aromas that are sweet fruity and flowery, lemon. Taste follows the aromas yet more powerfully with added cherry and woody spice, sarsaparilla, violets and herbs. Well integrated and tasty.
