COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

Pours a hazy amber with a small, tan head. Nose is very spicy and herbal. Dark fruit, red licorice, raspberry, yeast funk, brown sugar. Mouth feel is chewy with medium carbonation. Taste is cherry, raspberry, grass, herbal, green apple, stale gummy bears, and burnt toast. Finishes slightly bitter and dry; vinous, grassy and sour. Unique brew that gives off a holiday vibe without turning to cinnamon and ginger.

600 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy rusty brown with fairly large light tan head. Aroma of Belgian yeast - spice/fruit - with an interesting earthy herbal character that must be the myrtle. Flavour has lots of the same presumably myrtle note with apple/pear, bit of banana, bread and spice. Carbonation is rather light. I enjoyed this.

600ml bottle, bottled on november 30th, 2011. batch #834 hazy amber pour, small off white head. quite malty aroma, some light bread, quite a bit of spice. nutmeg, cardamon, some nuts, even a touch of lavender. mouthfeel is a tad watery, very light bitterness. finish is minerals, light lavender, more spice, and quite a bit of sweet malt. nice beer, couldnt see myself drinking more than a bottle.

from bottle. pours a very appropriate murky brown with a tan head. malty aromas, maybe some roasted nuts. pleasant taste predominantly malts but with a lacing of bitterness either from hops or the herbs and spices i’m not sure. Speeking of added herbs and spices, i personally don’t notice them in here. If i didn’t know they were there i wouldn’t taste them, thats probably a good thing though as it makes their blend more subtle.

Bottle. Amber with not much head. Smells and tastes kinda like spruce beer. Pretty well done.

I love it just for being so different. Nice light malt up front, maybe a hint of caramel (not much). Middle is more like dark fruits (plums, maybe even prunes). Finish is almost minty. Light in the mouth with almost no carbonation. Very interesting beer.

Bog Water is a wonderful combination of a sweet malty, carmel, Belgian-style dubbel ale with the almost minty bitterness of the bog myrtle. The lasting aftertaste is a bit more astringent (reminds me of nettle). On some sips I get slight hints of licorice. From the bottle I would give it some time to flatten. Found it a bit too bubbly on first sip. Also drinks better at warmer temperatures. Will taste side-by-side with Rochefort 10 soon and maybe adjust score up.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2012 Échantillon Mondial de la bière 2010. Bouteille 600 ml. Couleur brune foncé, mousse beige. Arôme de malt, houblons, un peu de fruits et levures. En bouche, fraîche, malt, fruits qui coupe la levure belge. Finale herbeuse, fruitée et tout s’arrête rapidement. Bonne beer.

Deep, cloudy ruddy pour with a thin white head. The aroma is great. Softly herbal and fruity with a lot of soft chewy character. Lots of myrtle aroma and flavour. It’s got a fairly decent bitterness and a lovely balance of flavours. A bit estery and fairly fruity. Soft and herbal. Pretty nice pint.
