3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I got a bottle of ceramic swing-tops from the back of the brewer’s truck, so I guess I’ll be the first to rate it!
This is a highly unusual beer, and I don’t really have a frame of reference for it. Dark red with a huge, foamy head. Definitely a funky, herbal, and spicy characteristic to the aroma: a lot of people detected nutmeg, but there was also an earthy, forest-floor note to it. The flavour is extremely mild and "short": you get a quick shot of malty sweetness with some of those spice and leafy flavours, almost like Dr. Pepper...but this beer was unusual in that it not only has very little in the way of finish, I didn’t notice much of a middle. Maybe sweet gale had a numbing effect on my tongue.
All in all, a pleasant drink and an interesting experiment. A good session beer to share.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear mid-brown with just a little head. The main reaction we had was "weird". The beer backbone is solid - a funky/caramelly/raisiny thing - but nothing particularly intense, to give room for the bog myrtle to come through. And come through it does! It sneaks in subtly with its vegetal/seaweed character, but by the finish it’s the headliner. So whether or not you like bog myrtle is going to go a long way in determining whether or not you like this. And I found it a little too vegetal, too mouth-puckering. And really odd.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
#oncask at Cest’What What. Pours a cloudy dark ambar colour with a small foamy off white head. A bit cold, so not much aroma to start with. Flavours are muted but caraway seed / mint com through. Definetly something vegetal happening here. Some lace, almost no bitter, lingering herbs. Interesting beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at beerbistro - served in a goblet, came a plum shade with a beige head that lasted for about half the glass. Very malty aroma, but some woody spice and dark fruits in there as well. Flavour again quite malty, but herbal and spicy as well, earthy, almost Belgian seeming. Wonder if they used Belgian yeast for this one, because the Bog Water carries that complex undercurrent of flavours. Some red wine-like flavours in there too. A bit too boozy and sweet to be a beer you’d want to drink a ton of (and at 6.6%, that’s probably a good thing), but a beer to be sipped and savoured, and an intriguing, admirable experiment. Nice work.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ beerbistro: Dayna’s Beer of the Moment, and highly recommended by our server. He gave us the whole background on the bog myrtle and we couldn’t resist. Comes quite dark, red in colour, decent foamy off-white head. Aroma was complex with lots of spice, to be honest I had no notepad and I chased it with a few more, so trying to remember the subtle nuances ain’t happenin’. I can tell you that the flavour was quite nice, very reminiscent of Maudite, but with no aftertaste to speak of. Quick hit of bitterness on the tongue, but quickly makes way for a nice subtle sweetness, slight watery, lots of spice and pepper. It’s actually very interesting and our entire party of three all enjoyed it thoroughly. Good work, guys!

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
600ml bottle. Nice clear amber body, low head, not much of a retention.
Aroma is sweetish, hops, malt, caramel, quiet herbal and refreshing.
Taste is malty, sourly, medicinal, sweet, a little oily. OK beer.
