COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

Pours a hazy amber with a small, tan head. Nose is very spicy and herbal. Dark fruit, red licorice, raspberry, yeast funk, brown sugar. Mouth feel is chewy with medium carbonation. Taste is cherry, raspberry, grass, herbal, green apple, stale gummy bears, and burnt toast. Finishes slightly bitter and dry; vinous, grassy and sour. Unique brew that gives off a holiday vibe without turning to cinnamon and ginger.

Glass bottle from the LCBO. Pours a coppery red with a little head that dissipates nearly immediately. Smell is sweet and a bit floral, definite caramel coming through with maybe a tiny bit of cinnamon. Palate is perfect for me, some carbonation that lingers a bit but provides a nice and not overly harsh sensation on the palate. Taste is pretty good, medium sweetness and a little bitterness, definitely goes more towards the sweet side. The added spices are definitely noticeable and very interesting. Can’t say I’ve ever had bog myrtle or sweet gale before. Aftertaste is a bit sweet, but disappears quickly. A decent beer overall.

Deep, cloudy ruddy pour with a thin white head. The aroma is great. Softly herbal and fruity with a lot of soft chewy character. Lots of myrtle aroma and flavour. It’s got a fairly decent bitterness and a lovely balance of flavours. A bit estery and fairly fruity. Soft and herbal. Pretty nice pint.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2013 Growler from the brewery, courtesy of my buddy Jay. Spicy nose, along with lots of malt - nice. Neat appearance - very dark brown, hazy and murky - very little head. Taste is good - reminded me instantly of Anchor Our Special Ale in its spiciness - it would have been more appropriate to drink this in the Winter than outside on the first great day of the year! Sweet malty brown ale with a neat original bit of spiciness - good effort Beau’s.

Growler from the brewery, about a week "old"-It’s nice to have contacts in the Ottawa area.Decants a deep, clouded brown with a thin beige ring of head. The nose is certainly malt forward, and hints at dark rye bread, dark fruit and lots of spice. This is certainly sweet, but I’m not sure if it is from the malts or from the sweet gale. Either way it is pleasant. Fruity, quite spicy, almost savory. The alcohol content is not noticeable, and this beer finishes softly with the low carbonation. Spiced, sweet lingering aftertaste. Quite a treat.

bottle. Pours deep ruby, head quickly disappeared. Aroma of banana, yeast, malts. Taste is sweet, almost a cross between a dunkelweisse and a dubbel. Interesting and good.

Pours a copper colour with a beige frothy head that last a while, but does not stick to the glass much. Mild beautiful aromas found in a Belgian ale with soft spices and yeast. Medium-bodied. Roasted malts that taste more sweet than burnt with notes of bananas in the finish. Pretty cool that they use wild harvested bog myrtle instead of hop. Nice and easy drinking spicy ale, but does not warm up much for those winter day (or nights). Still, a pleasant different brew that is mild overall (which it was stronger in all aspect).

600ml bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown, rather dark, moderate short-lived tan head. Looked kind of like a Belgian ale. Aroma was a little yeasty and dusty, but mostly dark fruity malt. Taste is tart and herbal with a mild sweetness, salt and yeast. Medium body, decent carbonation. Overall, very unique. Kind of an herbal Belgian ale.
