COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

Tap at Volo. Very cloudy amber pour, thin white head. Aroma is pretty yeasty, almost a dunkel character. Little bit floral, nutmeg and sweet maltiness. Medium body. Flavour is bready, little bit nutty and some molasses. Clean finish. Nothing extreme going on here but nice balanced brew.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of light sugar and caramel notes with light herb undertones. Taste is a mix between a solid malt backbone with some herbs and some light candi sugar. Body is fuller then average with low carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting though some additional carbonation would have helped.

pours hazy dark amber, light brown-reddish with a decent light beige head, some retention. lightly sourish berries, leafy spiciness, nicely toasted malts, tingling citric acidity, short but present grassy finish. hint of sweetness. relatively soft carbonation, light body - some oiliness. original, interesting... and nice!

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2012 [1478-20080601] Bottle. Heavy wet malt aroma with a bit of dark toasted flower petals. Dark brown red body with quick light tan bubbles. Mostly toasted grains flavour in a "stale wheat bread" manner with some floral and chocolate hints.

[4977B-20121129] Tap. Mild fruity floral malt aroma. Hazy, amber brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Light banana ester toasted malt grain flavour has a lightly sweet fruity floralness. Medium body is a little on the rough side. Good. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

Growler from the brewery. Pours dark brown, slightly red. Very little head, a little flat. Big smoky aroma, taste is sweet, hints of raisin, prunes, and roasted malt finish. Good stuff!

Ceramic from the brewery. Drank in a (Beau’s...) Pint-glass), in two "servings". Pours copper brown with shades of dark-green. Basically no white-head, somewhat flat. Earthy (read : muddy) /spicy aroma, with a slight hint of smoke. Low bitterness, somewhat sweet as well. Medium body, really flat though. Spicy from start to finish - I guess that’s what Sweet Gale is about. I heard great things about that beer. It’s definitely good, and worth a try - because it’s pretty unique (anybody knows another beer made with Sweet Gale?). Still, it’s not as amazing as I expected - the folks at Beau’s really told me it was an awesome one, and I was relatively disappointed, kinda like an A student who got a B+. Still a regular purchase, though.

Growler shared by someone.
Appearance : Hazy amber with no head.
Aroma : Spices and fruits with some malt. Nice yeast with nice banana bread notes.
Taste : Spices with light bananas. Finish has nice notes of banana bread. Light bitterness.
Overall : Nothing to write home about but quite good. Nice banana bread notes. I thought this was a weizen.

Bottle. Amber with not much head. Smells and tastes kinda like spruce beer. Pretty well done.

600 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a large off-white head. Aroma is bread, yeast, banana, bubble-gum, and a little alcohol. Taste is banana, clove, and a little spice. Smooth, medium body with a gentle malty finish. Very much like a German wheat beer. Not my favorite Beaus product, but you have to try somethiing made with bogmyrtle!

Has a murky brown like colour, Aromas of fresh pine and spruce, malted and caramel candy. Has a sour taste profile with a tangy zesty finish which is surprising given the aroma on the nose.
