This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

Thanks to cfrancis for this. Pours a murky brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of sweet dried fruits, spicy herbs, pine. Taste is yeast and cloves, some sourness then has some sweetness and fruity notes. Interesting beer that is easy to sip on.

600 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass. 06DE12.

App.: Deep reddish-brown, murky with a smallish yellow-tan head. Aroma: Quite like a Belgian Dubbel, strong yeast, dark dried fruit, light esters, malty and playful, faint minty herbals. Palate: Medium+ body, fine, creamy effervescence. Flav.: More herbal, bread, toast, yeast, less fruity, a touch roasted, faint esters, malty with more plant character; basically dry with minimal bitterness and a full ,yeasty, bready, malty finish.

Finally rated after a few bottles over the years. Enjoyable.

Bouteille 600ml.

600ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a hazy dark brown with a huge beige head that takes a while to settle. Nose is yeast and cloves. taste is quite spicy but not as clove heavy as the nose would indicate and a cola like sweetness.. Medium body with lively carbonation.

Muted aroma, carael, herbs, (myrtle?). Roasted malt, caramel, herbs and spice, lemon, actually quite different, if not complex. Medium body. Definitely unique.

From County General in Toronto. Very cloudy, almost opaque amber-orange with fizzy foamy off-white head. Smells of lime, tangerine, musty sweet malt, bit of cinnamon. Quite musty in a way that comes off as un-fresh. Taste is acidic, medium sweetness, light bitterness, tart lemony finish. Body is acidic, fizzy but in a slightly flat way, sweet. Like a Saison, or hoppy spiced orange juice.
