COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong & dark beer, inspired by the Alfred bog, is our very first seasonal offering. Featuring bog myrtle, or sweet gale, harvested from the wilds of northern Quebec. This ancient herb was used in brewing hundreds of years ago and offers bitterness, a sweet aroma and herbal spicy notes.

Dark brown colour with nose of spice and malt. Taste is a little mixed of light spices and malt.

750mL ceramic bottle shared with matt7215, my bottle. Pours a hazy, muddy brown with a very small beige head. The aroma is straight up weird. Cinnamon, cardamon, clove, sweet&sour sauce, BBQ sauce, beef jerky, dry yeast. Bizarre. Flavour is a mix of it all with a lean towards the sourness but some some sweet malty aspects to balance, and whatever the hell bog myrtle must taste like. Smokey and with hints of chicory. Not hard to drink but a little bit unnecessary to my palate’s judgement.

600ml bottle. Brown with a nice biege head that fades to a spotty covering. Somewhat roasted and sweet malt, some caramel, bit of belgian sugar, lightly spiced. Light carbonation, moderate body, sweet and a large malt presence, becomes a little weak on the finish.

Dark brown slight hazy pour, off white head no lacing. Weak aroma, watery, a bit musky. sweet malt taste, caramel, slight spice. Fizzy mouth feel, a little thin.

from bottle. pours a very appropriate murky brown with a tan head. malty aromas, maybe some roasted nuts. pleasant taste predominantly malts but with a lacing of bitterness either from hops or the herbs and spices i’m not sure. Speeking of added herbs and spices, i personally don’t notice them in here. If i didn’t know they were there i wouldn’t taste them, thats probably a good thing though as it makes their blend more subtle.

Clear mid-brown with just a little head. The main reaction we had was "weird". The beer backbone is solid - a funky/caramelly/raisiny thing - but nothing particularly intense, to give room for the bog myrtle to come through. And come through it does! It sneaks in subtly with its vegetal/seaweed character, but by the finish it’s the headliner. So whether or not you like bog myrtle is going to go a long way in determining whether or not you like this. And I found it a little too vegetal, too mouth-puckering. And really odd.

Whoa! Unique. Cloudy pour. No head at all. Aroma of fruit and yeast, that continues on the palate. Short finish. Not something I'd buy again, but worth trying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from brewery store. Drank 3.5 months after bottling time (stored in fridge). Seems to have lost some carbonation. Small amount of tan head. Found yeast at the bottom of my glass, and it clouded up the beer. Not a big deal, but a surprise. Murky red brown colour. Smells of vegetables, lemon/lime citrus. Malt and myrtle are balanced till about halfway through, before giving way to sour myrtle flavour quickly. Medium lemony finish. Tastes sort of like an unbalanced summer beer. Feels like an odd choice for winter. I usually love Beau’s, but this is the closest thing to a disappointment I’ve had with their beer. Still, I would enjoy it on a hot summer day, which is when this beer should be available.
