probstblueribbon (3067) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 25, 2012
4 oz sample at National Capital Craft Beer Festival. 17AU12.

App.: Very cloudy light mahogany with a small tan-yellow head. Aroma: Really heavy Bourbon, strong, thick, gooey caramel/toffee, grapefruit, resin, a touch vegetal, a little peppery. Palate: Medium+ body, slick, moderate effervescence. Flav.: Plenty o’ wood, caramel/toffee, chewy, peppery spicy hops, some grapefruit, a little booze, big stuff; sweet with good bitterness and a long, caramel/toffee finish.

Handles the barrel ageing better than Hyde.

Private Beaus buying club bottle. Medium brown with a bubbly head, and leaving lace. A strong ale, with hops muted and adding taste but not potency. Some citrus and lots of sweetness. The bourbon character is strong but comfortably nice.

Lubiere (10455) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 26, 2012
A hazed dark amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a smooth treacle caramel malt with light wooden notes, vanilla, musty. In mouth, a nice beautiful caramel malt with floral hops, menthol, warming alcohol, very nice and complex. Bottle at National Capital Craft Beer Festival, August 17, 2012.

Pours dark orange with a light head that dissipates to a nice film. Lots of sweet aromas, bourbon really coming through. Nice long bitter finish. A really nice effort!

cfrancis (2510) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 26, 2012
Pours a dirty brown with a small, quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is dominated with sweet bourbon notes with caramel. Taste is again dominated by sweet bourbon and boozy alcohol. There is the backing of earthy hops and a healthy bitterness but beer is dominated too much with the bourbon. Is this really a style that benefits with barrel aging?
