COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This collaborative project from Beau’s All Natural Brewing and Bridgehead Coffee brings together a strong doppelbock beer and a blend of three flavourful organic fair-trade coffees to create a bold taste and aroma.

History & Style

The base beer for this offering is a traditional dark German doppelbock, brewed to 8% abv. Coffee was steeped in the kettle after boiling to add a whole new dimension of complex flavours.

Tasting Notes

Aromas and flavours of chocolate, dried fruit, warming alcohol and burnt toffee meld with pronounced, pure coffee flavours. Chocolate and coffee linger on the palate after each sip.

Pours dark copper, not quite brown. Good creme head that looks surprisingly creamy. Aroma is... pretty close to real coffee actually (...well, let’s say, instant coffee) in which some burnt caramel and honey have been poured in. Taste is... well, slightly toffee ish and lots of coffee. Some hints of dried fruits (Think dates) as well. Really not bitter and... surprisingly sweet, without the feeling of having poured sugar in a coffee cup. Interesting, especially to see a coffee beer based of a doppelbock...

Bouteille 600mL. Cuivrée-brune semi-translucide. Nez faible de café glacé. Corps moyen à mince. Bouche de café dilué avec un peu de chocolat et une pointe de caramel. Bof.

Pours a slightly hazy brown colour with a small off white ring around the glass. Aromas of coffee mostly(seems a bit sour), and chocolate. Flavours are coffee(slightly sour, dry, and bitter), some sweetness, chocolate, and toffee.

Thanks to cfrancis for this one. Pours a murky brown color with a creamy off white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate & coffee; however the coffee aromas almost seem stale or bad. Taste is loads of coffee and chocolate that blend together fairly well and leaves a good bitterness on the finish as well as an altering combination of chocolate sweetness as well. Very smooth for 8%.

600ml bottle. Large tan head, dark brown amber colour. Smell is strong, good quality coffee. Taste is pretty much just coffee. but it was really good. Alcohol was masked really well. Overall, it lacks complexity but it was really tasty.

600 ml bottle from the brewery, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep ruby mahogany with a fair orange-tan head. Aroma: Lots of rich medium-roasted coffee, alcohol, the coffee overpowers the nose, but some nice maltiness manages to escape. Palate: Medium body, very relaxed effervescence. Flav.: The coffee is subdued, allowing more of the Doppelbock notes through, raisins, dried fruits, rich malts, a little alcohol, mildly fruity, a hint woodsy, nice; dry with fair bitterness and a boozy, pleasantly balanced bock/coffee finish.

Well done, mostly.

Clear dark brown, small beige head. Aroma of well, yes, coffee. Also some nice nutty, caramel malts. Flavour is very mich all coffee, but unlike a stout, there is no roasty, just a sweet nuttiness, with toffee notes. Nice stuff.
