COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer represents a journey back in time to 1515, just one year before the Purity Act began to take hold in Europe. This ancient style of beer is known as Dubbel Koyt and its origins lie in the town of Zutphen, The Netherlands. Its recipe was brought to our attention by beer researcher Ron Pattinson, who collaborated with us in brewing this historical re-creation. Not only is the Dubbel Koyt an un-hopped Gruit, but incredibly, the grist bill consists of 50% Oats, 20% Wheat, and only 30% Barley. The resulting beer is completely different from anything we have ever tried. The myrtle aroma is delicate, there are flavours of oats, wine, and honey, and the mouth feel is slick and coating, as only oatmeal can be. While certainly not for everybody, it should be experienced by any Beerophile. It provides the rare chance to taste beer as it might have existed centuries ago, as well as practical insight into the history of our beloved libation.

Tasting Notes
Aromas of Oatmeal, mead and Christmas spice. The mouthfeel is weighty and slick. Breakfast cereal sweetness in the flavour gives way to a drying and tannic finish.

Food Pairings
Porridge, Smoked Mackerel, Frittata

Bottle: Poured a hazy super pale yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart wheat notes with light herb notes. Taste is also dominated by loads of tart citric notes with wheat notes and some herb also noticeable. Body is light with good carbonation. Strange beer which is somewhat reminiscent of a Gose without out the salty part.

Pours a cloudy straw yellow kinda like lemonade and a small white ring around the glass. Aroma consists of zesty lemon, grainy, some mild spices, and maybe a little hay. Flavour is a sour lemon mixed with a white wine, quite smooth and some wheat characteristics.

Pours a cloudy strawy yellow with a foamy white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of oats, some sour fruits and white wine. Taste is oatmeal, white wine, slight sweet honey kinda meadish like. Mouth feel is very slick and creamy. Overall this is a very interesting beer being brewed with 70 percent non barley, not something I could drink ample amounts of but a half pint on a hot summer day would be fantastic.

Really like this one. Pours clear yellow with a pillowy head and lots of lacing. Nose is lemony and fruity. Aromas of fruit, some floral, some cereal and a bit of earthiness. Tastes are light sweet. Very little bitterness. Mouthfeel is incredible. Really creamy with a velvety carbonation. Nice stuff!

Pours a light straw gold with a fizzy white top. Aroma is citrus, straw and cereal malts. Something else I can’t quite place, slightly earthy, maybe the yarrow or gale. Unsure.

2013-03-23. Very lightly hazy crisp golden yellow body. small white head and great lace. 3+ Modest malt , oats, light grassy fruit character struggles to stand up to the surroundings but is pleasant nonetheless. Flavour is relatively bitter, modest malt pale malt, grassy notes. Modest bitterness. Enjoyable but a touch mild overall, probably better suited to a longer more contemplative session. On tap at Beaunly Event, Only Cafe, Toronto

600mL bottle courtesy of notdan, thanks man. Pours a very hazy straw yellow with a small white head. Looks like a farmhouse ale, even the effervescence would be correct for that style. The aroma is quite interesting, lots of banana mixed with lemon, as well as some yeast and the kind of pale malty character I grew to love in better-made mass-market lagers when I was but a wee young 19-year-old (pure 2-row barley I guess?) Flavour has all of the above riding on a viscous palate brought on by the oats. Feels quite smooth despite the carbonation. Some minor dryness shows up in the end possibly from the wheat. Google tells me Wild Sweet Gale, aka Myrica Gale is a flower indigenous to Northern Europe as well as North America (because ’Myrica, fuck yeah!...?) Also, Beau’s is actually mentioned in the wiki entry for Myrica Gale, seriously, check it out. I didn’t know what to expect with this one, but was pleasantly surprised. Dutch farmers in 1515 apparently had remarkably tasty beer, which makes sense to me, as I am aware that absolutely no one throws a party quite like pre-Reformation peasantry.

Aroma soft frontal feel with nice wheat hinted wrap. Hint of almond, peanuts and golden malt (backing)
Appearance hazed golden ale with hints of amber. Light minimal top.
Flavor and Palate : frontal rye bread like character, gentle sourness. Soft fruity accents at the mid (Apricot and apple). Very low carbonation, almost flat. Interesting traditional ale.

On tap at the Only Cafe. Pours a lightly cloudy golden yellow with good sized white head. Aroma is quite spicy with some sweetish fruit. Flavour is hard to place spice (almost pine/spruce) and cooked apples. Almost cough medicine quality. Fine carbonation; drying finish. Interesting but not one I’d seek out in a hurry again.
