COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Bohemian pilsner is a staple of the German diet, and we’re happy to include one for you in the 2014 Beau’s Oktoberfest mix pack! Pale blond in colour, Happy Pilsner’s light floral, herbal and honey aromas take your senses on a trip to their happy place: the ever-enjoyable taste of a crisp, clean traditional lager.

History & Style
The Bohemian pilsner was first brewed in 1842 in Pilsen, Bohemia. Pilsners were the first beers in the world to have a pale blond colour. Beau’s first brewed Happy Pilsner for happy Oktoberfest-goers in 2010, and we’re super-duper happy to bring it back for 2014.

Tasting Notes
Happy Pilsner has a delicate herbal, floral and honey-like aroma. Traditional to the style, the flavour has some yeast-derived soft sulfur notes. The hopping provides medium bitterness that balances the malt profile without harshness.

Food Pairings
Caviar, croque monsieur, fried calamari, enchiladas.

Bottle: Poured a nice golden color pils with a huge pure white foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of clean cereal notes with light floral notes is enticing. Taste is also dominated by clean cereal notes with some light residual sugar notes and some light dry hoppy notes. Body is about average with great carbonation. I quite enjoyed this one especially the fact that the malt bill was very clean which allowed to taste the cereals.

600 mL bottle. Pours golden with a frothy white head that lasts. Pilsner malt notes of grain, straw and fresh cut grass, some stony minerality, herbal hops and a little sulfur. Dry with subtle malt sweetness and a bitter backbone. Light bodied with above average carb. Not bad, not that exciting.

My quest for the ultimate craft beer pilsner continues (why quest for pilsner? I like to end a serious session with a pils or -- gasp! -- cider) with this Beaus take on the style. It’s a bit of a stumble -- maybe stagger is the best word choice at this point? -- between the traditional bohemian pilsner & the Beaus signature brew profile. You get the crispy pilsner goodness but its muddied by that unnameable unknowable outdoorsy deep woods character that runs through a lot of their output. Which is fine: style is style, & while the best pilsner in Canada (if you know of one I should try please message me) is still Steamworks in Vancouver this isn’t bad.

600ml bottle. Hazy gold with a frothy white head. Flavors are cereals, biscuit, bread, lemon peel, grass and a bit of sulphur. Light to medium body, bright carbonation, slick texture.

Bottle. Clear golden pour, rocky white head. Fresh, crisp pale cereal aroma. Pungent grassy, saazy hops. Solid mouth feel, soft carb. The finish is simple, but effective. Grassy hops, slightly yeast malts, but still good cereals and grains. It does what it set out to do.

600 ml bottle in a mixed pack from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Hazy golden with a decent white head (somewhat loose). Aroma: Sort of a sharp/aggressive green/herbal aroma, a bit of sulphur, vague light malt, a little Beau’s rustic “house character”. Palate: Medium body, loose carbonation, more crisp than smooth. Flav.: Floral, a little sharp citrus, bitter herbs, some light malt, rough around the edges; dry with moderate bitterness and a fairly clean, light malt finish.

Doesn’t cut it for a Bo Pils and is reasonably drinkable.

Would have hoped for a hoppier taste considering the style. It is pale clear yellow with a reminescence of Beau’s LugTread. On tap at Beau’s Oktoberfest. Very fun Oktoberfest by the way.

On tap at Oktoberfest 2010. Pours a light straw yellow with a nice white head. Aroma is grain and light hop. Taste is a grainy hop that is abrupt but pleasant if that’s possible. Very nice pilsner.
