COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This orange-hued bock beer was brewed with a light rye malt addition, and offers up mingling aromas of mint and herbs. Adventurously spiced, the malty, sweet taste gets a pleasant cleansing lift from the addition of cooling peppermint and herbal juniper. Light orange peel adds citrus complements in the flavour undretones. Try it paired with gingerbread, spring rolls or traditionnal winter holiday fare.

2012-12-31. Crisp dark orangey amber body, nice foamy beige head that fades leavig a nice beige lace on the glas. 3+ Really interesting aroma and flavour profile. Mint-orange melante in the aroma, mild fruit. 7+ Flavour has similar orange-mint melange, hints of juniper (maybe?) giving way to a fruity sweetish middle with just enough balancing bitterness. 8+ Very smooth average plus bodied palate. Did not expect this flavour combination to work when it was described but it manages to find a near perfect balance between the mint and orange. I quite enjoyed the fine line it walked. Tasty stuff. Not sure if I’d love it as much a second time but it apparently tickled me today! Bottle at Volo, Toronto, shared by Beaus_stuntman

Bottle shared with several folks at Wvrst at the Beau’s Mates With Dates release party on Feb 17 2012. Orangey-reddish-amber colour with a bit of haze and a small white head. Aroma - holy crap, that’s a lot of peppermint! No complaints from me, I love peppermint. Also some orange peel, a bit of honey, and perhaps a suggestion of juniper berry if I really look for it. The mint isn’t quite as aggressive in the flavour, sitting back to let the orange and honey notes come to the forefront, but still providing a nice backnote. The juniper gives the finish a slight medicinal tang that works nicely.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2014 Scent of malt, spices, and honey. Clear golden colour. Flavours of ginger, cinnamon, honey, and malt. Medium body with mild carbonation. I would definitely buy this again.

Bottle from the brewery. Drank in a Orval chalice. Good white head, amber/orange color. Aroma is quite heavy on herbs and mint (as advertised - but mainly mint), with really subdued malts. TAste is a bit more of the same, though the juniper berries seems to be a little more at the front, but it still heavy on mint and you really had to like peppermint, as the taste is QUITE long (that’s my case...). The orange peels are subtle, but are certainly felt. Can’t really notice the effect of rye, because the peppermint taste is quite upfront. Really sticky mouthfeel and long, minty aftertaste. All in all -- a great, somewhat novelty brew. As a sidenote, it paired extremely well with fish and sushi.

Pours a burnt orange colour with a short lived fizzy white head. The aroma is mint, juniper berry, spice, herbal, medical, spearmint. The flavour is also mint up front, sweet malty notes, toffee, light orange, medical herbs. An odd beer, not bad though, im enjoying it, but I probably wont buy it again.

600ml bottle. Hazy copper pour, small lightly beige head. A nice caramel malt aroma, quite malt forward, reminds me alot of a nice german bock, with some ample spicing. Im getting notes of ginger, citrus peel, cardamon, and turkish delight. Flavor is again quite malt forward and the spices die off leaving a pleasant bready malt. Finish is very lightly bitter, with a subtle herbacious, and medicinal note. Some light grasses, and herbs linger......an interesting take on a bock. I would honestly like to try the base bock without the spices.

Bottle 1946 appearance: red orange with a small white head. Aroma: hmm like smelling nice spearmint gum but from someone else’s breath, lime, orange blossom honey, floral hops. Flavour: Wow, so unusual, oranges & mango & mint & coriander & hops & honey... Not much carbonation and a slightly sticky finish, oddly lovely. Spicy finish.

Pours deep marmalade with a slight frosting for a cap. Well if this ain’t just an odd little brew: sugar & spice is the theme here. Pour one of these goats & you’ll get breakfast jam, mint tea, honey & hints of juniper. I’m confused: do I drink this after dinner on a Saturday night or before work on Wednesday morning?

Single at the LCBO. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a frothy warm cap, good retention and creamy thick lacing. Spicy nose with lots of bread malt notes. Eventually, fruits come out, like oranges with some light alcohol in the background. Rye bread taste with a mild sweetness and a little yeast in the finish. The spices are not as strong in the flavours and that is too bad. Still, an overall easy-drinking bock. Note: the peppermint seems controlled to previous version of this brew. I do not feel it.
