Commercial Description:
Beau's flagship offering is Lug Tread Lagered Ale, named after the tire treads of a small tractor, a true symbol of Eastern Ontario. Golden-hued, crisp and finely balanced, Lug Tread is a tribute to “Kölsch” the classic beer of Cologne, Germany. Lug Tread is top fermented (like an ale) and then cold aged, or “lagered”, for a lengthy period. This gives it some light ale notes, complemented by a lager-like crispness.

750 ml ceramic bottle from a trade with jessem. bottled january 19th 2009. pours beautiful hazy golden with a mid sized white head. soft subtle carbonation. aroma of bready lager malts, with some grassy hops, very inviting. im actually salivating at this aroma and thats quite rare. the flavours are sweet bready malts leading to a dry hop finish. there are yeasty aspects throughout the aroma and flavour but they play a background role. this brew is very reminicent of the grand river lagers. the difference is the lack of mineral bitterness that grand river has in it water. i really wish this was available locally because it would be a regular purchase for me. thanks for hooking me up jesse!!

750 mL clay swingtop bottle - very nice. (Rated at 5.2%). Pale copper orange with a small white head. Sharp aroma of hay and grain. Taste is fresh, slightly sweet pilsner malt and a touch of noble hops. Slight bitterness in the finish. Medium body. Not quite as crisp as it could be. But a nice attempt at a style not often (ever?) found in Ontario.

750 ceramic bottle, courtesy of my bro - pours a clear, dark gold with a good thick white head. Faint, enjoyable aroma of apples, yeast, and sweet grain. Flavour mild but quaffable - some diacetyl lending buttered popcorn notes, along with a clean lager finish. Honest beer.

Draught from the Manx. Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow with an average white head. Aromas of grain, yeast, and hops. Initial flavour of sweet grains, gave way to a moderate bitter finish. A nice beer to try, but not something I would look for.

750ml ceramic bottle, pours a very slightly hazy straw colour with a very thin head. Nose is a little skunky and faintly spicy. Flavour is much the same. Not really skunky, but a tiny bit spicy. It’s a bit watery, in flavour and in the mouth. It has some sweet caramel notes especially as it warms up a bit. Carbonation is low but alright, and it is a bit watered down.

bouteille de grès de 750ml, bière blonde avec une belle mousse, arôme de céréale, goût de malt agréable en bouche, ronde et efficace.

10oz, Draught, Pub Italia in Ottawa When they brought this out in an authentic-style, Beau’s-branded, narrow vertical Kölsch glass, I knew these guys were serious about doing this right. It’s a straw-coloured beer with a billowy, constantly replenishing head. Malt is grainy, a bit sweet but not pils-like. Right at the edge of noticeability there’s a hint of floral, grassy hop. Flavour is sweet, with enough bitterness to make it crisp, quite clean with a Kölsch yeast note. This is a well-done version of a style I find boring. I’m unlikely to order it again, but it will be successful and rightly so. It’s well-made craft beer. I wish people wouldn’t rate it so low just because it’s yellow.
