Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a brown-black that’s mostly opaque with a fair amount of brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Smell is more Belgian than imperial stout but has notes from both, banana, cloves, sweet malt, chocolate. Palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Taste is slightly bitter at first with some sweetness before hitting all the major imperial stout notes with coffee and chocolate roastiness. There is a nice freshness in it however, which is good, though clashes with the name.

Bottle - Bittersweet syrupy chocolate. Jet black creamy brown head. Bittersweet chocolate, syrup and light bitterness. Long chocolate syrup finish. Not bad.

Bottle, shared with Robbie and Grippitis. Dark brown, amber highlights, very lively tan head. Not a lot of roast in here, more dark fruits, dark caramel, sublte spices. Nice enough, but not very stouty.

Bottle from the LCBO. Deep brownish red with a generous dark tan head that sticks around. Nose is caramel, chocolate, banana and some light coffee. Moderately sweet start with a bitterness in the middle that dries things out a bit. Mouth is a bit thin for a stout but creamy with average carbonation.Decent but not spectacular.

Tap at Loose Moose, Toronto 05/07/14. Pours dark coca cola brown with an off white head. Aroma is sweet, watered down rum and coke. Medium body, medium carb. Lots of dark sugar, treacle, some rum, light dark fruits... Oddly thin, and lacking.

bottle. Poured opaque, very dark brown with a dense creamy mocha head. Aroma lightly spiced with clove and cocoa. Full rich body with an astringent mouthfeel and moderate bitterness. Roasted malt flavour , bitter chocolate, raisins, with a belgian yeasty note. Lingering warming finish.

My Bottom Line:
Milk chocolate and earth evolve into a chicory-like bitterness in this lean and forgettable Belgian-style Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the dark brown.
-This is a tad too vegetal for my tastes (not from DMS though).
-The mouthfeel lacks comfort.
-The malt flavors don’t have the type of flavor I like in the style.

Bottle.

Oh I’m tired. And I understand Matt’s problem. Even a weaker Imperial at 8% is going to push me into sleepy time too. Was it worth it? Well.. Pours a stealthy dark brown with a little cloud, just enough to obscure the moon. Smells like some sweet molasses, caramel malts. Tastes a little sweet on the pallet with toasted malts, more of that aforementioned molasses, a little sweet, sweet booze and a touch of bitterness. Not bad. Worth the ensuing nap? Well ya, plus naps are awesome.

600ml bottle from LCBO #568. Alc./Vol. 8.0% Batch No.: 6571. Packaged Date: 04.20.2014. Toronto, ON. Pours an opaque deep brown colour with one finger of tanned head. Aroma mainly has notes of coffee and chocolate. The taste matches the aroma with a pleasantly smooth bitter finish. Light body with moderate carbonation.
