3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a brown-black that’s mostly opaque with a fair amount of brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Smell is more Belgian than imperial stout but has notes from both, banana, cloves, sweet malt, chocolate. Palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Taste is slightly bitter at first with some sweetness before hitting all the major imperial stout notes with coffee and chocolate roastiness. There is a nice freshness in it however, which is good, though clashes with the name.

pours very dark brown, red hue, with a creamy beige head, good retention and lacing. roasted cocoa nibs, spicy and fruity esters throughout, milk chocolate - some lactose-like sweetness, chocolate porridge - dark roasted oatmeal, hint of bubblegum. moderate carbonation, medium to full body, earthy-spicy-fruity-lightly resinous finish. enjoyed it!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle, 2012 Best of Beau’s pack. Unfiltered, ruby red edges on a very dark brown body. Large tan head. Aroma of dates, coffee and chocolate. Taste is fruity, Belgian yeast and roasted barley. Body is not light, but lighter than I expected, with lots of carbonation. Overall, it is clearly both Belgian and stout, and it quite good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Last one from their "Best of Beau’s 2012", but the first one in the Wild Oats Series. Pours a dark brown colour with red highlights. Big frothy mocha head with great retention and a little foamy lace remaining. Aromas of roasted malts, vanilla, alcohol, with hints of grassy hops and chocolate. Nice creamy mouthfeel with a mild warming and slight dry finish. Taste of bananas, spices, mild chocolate and burnt malts, with a hoppy finish. Not as chocolaty as it seems from the description, but a nice Impy Stout that has a bit more hop bite than most others. Real glad I could try this.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
600 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours deep chestnut-black with a moderate tan head that fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big notes of roasted malts, espresso and earthy. The Belgian yeast comes through, but this is largely obscured by roasty, charred notes. The flavour is moderately sweet up front, but quickly becomes intensely bitter. Notes of charred malts and coffee dominate over hints of anise and chocolate. The finish is long and bitter with roasted malts and a surprising dose of hops. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a somewhat dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent imperial stout with a Belgian character. The malts are a bit too harsh and dominate the other flavour notes. The barrel version is likely better. 2012-12-16

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at winterbrewed - little too cold to enjoy considering it was -19C with windchill for a stout but still happy to finally try the base beer after having had the bourbon aged version over a year and half ago. Find this more stout then Belgian, there is some Belgian yeast but more cocoa nibs, roasted semi-sweet malt, bit of smoke too. Moderate body, mild carbonation, slightly sweet, coats the palate, nice roasted malty finish as things dry out.

Bouteille 600 mL. Brune-foncee presque noire. Belle mousse qui s’estompe tranquillement. Nez de grains rotis et de reglisse. Bouche onctueuse de grains rotis, reglisse, melasse avec un cote l’acte. Corps moyen a fort. Excellente.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wow. This is my type of stout. Pours black with a big frothy beige head. Aroma is rich dark chocolate and lightly roasted malts. Taste is light roasted malts, dry belgian mouthfeel, bitter dark chocolate all in a great balance. I could drink a lot of this.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to cfrancis for this one. Pours a pitch black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, fruity esthers, sweet chocolate & cloves. Taste is roasted malts, chocate sweetness and cocoa. Overall it is a very roast sweet stout, with not really any alcohol present. Not dry at all but very easy to sip on for an imperial stout.
