Draught at Volo. Pours black with a small diminishing tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, slightly sweet, with Belgian yeast, lots of milk chocolate and a bit of smoke -- nice! Flavour’s roasty along with Belgian yeast, some coffee and chocolate, though not as chocolaty as the aroma suggests. Some alcohol but fairly well hidden. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good, an interesting beer.

from Mondial de la Bière 2011, Strasbourg - cloudy dark brown beer with a rubish hue; pretty nice foam left; nice lacework; deep aroma of cold coffee, cocoa and vanilla, roasted and with notes of hazelnut; full-bodied and creamy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation; some sweetness and a respectable bitterness, very long chocolatey and nutty finish with light notes of warming alcohol - superb

A nice, big beer. lots of malt, chocolate and nuts. However, the lack of balance disguises some of the more subtle flavors. Seemed to have a light moutfeel considering the style, but this works for it. definitely worth trying.

Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with a tan off white head with okay head retention. Malty body with chocolate malt tones. Bitter with burnt malt tones and a light sweetness seems like licorice lice in nature. Caramel and a banana like fruit ester tone. Eh pretty average at best.

Mondiale 2010. Pours a clear deep brown with a thin head. Aroma is off earthy leather burnt toast, some harsh maple syrup, spicy phenolics, pepper, and some dull fruity esters and light roasted malts- nuts and chocolate. Flavor is burnt nuts and fruit, phenolic, roast, ash, dust, cracker, toffee, molasses, and a leathery earthy almost dog hair dirtiness, medicinal and tobacco in the end. Meh.

Sampled from a bottle (I think) at Mondial de la bière. It’s dark brown with ruby highlights and no head. The aroma has lotsa roast, Belgian yeast (?), nuts, and maraschino cherries. The flavour is quite similar, dominated by the roast, but with yeast and chocolate in there as well. Medium to full body, and medium to low carbonation. I wish their stuff was more widely available.

On tap at Bar Volo. Dark with a white head. Smells of unsweetened chocolate and faint coffee aroma. Nice roast stout flavours works well with the Belgian yeast. Nice.

dark pour with a fluffy brown head. Aroma of sweet milk chocolate, some tinges of coffee, and quite a bit of sweet malts. The alcohol is present in the flavor, and its a bit hot. There cocoa fades, and the coffee takes over, this is not a belgian strong, more of a strong sweet stout.
