2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Mondiale 2010. Pours a clear deep brown with a thin head. Aroma is off earthy leather burnt toast, some harsh maple syrup, spicy phenolics, pepper, and some dull fruity esters and light roasted malts- nuts and chocolate. Flavor is burnt nuts and fruit, phenolic, roast, ash, dust, cracker, toffee, molasses, and a leathery earthy almost dog hair dirtiness, medicinal and tobacco in the end. Meh.

Pour is dark brown, almost black, with a short-lived tan cap. Nose is timid but complex: the usual chocolate and toasted malt, but also lots of dark fruit, brandied cherries and a bit of funky, doughy Belgian yeast. Taste is a sweet, fruity malt with a good dose of spice. Alcohol is there for warmth but never overwhelms. Interesting concoction, and a nice winter sipper.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A relatively mild nose featuring cocoa, roasted malt and a hint of Belgian yeast. Taste profile features chocolate, cocao, cream, nuts, mild coffee, Belgian yeast (but it is not overdone) and rich dark berries. Solid mouth feel and body. Well balanced, rich and complex.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
500ml bottle from the LCBO. Poured into a pint glass, beer poured a deep brown/black with a thin beige head that dissipated about halfway through the glass. Excellent stout - heavy and thick in the mouth, aromas of coffee and dark chocolate with dark fruity undertones. Plenty of alcohol warmth...I could see myself installed behind a few of these on a dark winter’s night. Really, really good.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pitch black with a nice thick light brown head. Dark fruit sweetness, dark chocolate, a little roasted side. Nice balance, start sweet then merge to a bitter brew. Full body with a slick texture.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
600 ml bottle. Pours a ruby reddish black with a thick, creamy, resilient beige head. Aroma is chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla and coffee. Flavor is chocolate, very roasty, oldish, figs. Finish is strangely woody, vanilla, and coffeeish. Lingering chocolate and boozey notes. Medium to full body, oily and viscous mouthfeel, weak to medium carbonation. Solid!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark brown with a thin brown head. Malty sweetness dominates the nose. Light chocolate aromas. Dark fruits are also perceptible. Mainly dried prunes. Taste is esthery with a warming alcohol. The chocolate and coffee notes are more present than in the nose. Still sweet with lots of dark fruits. Overall I expected more body for 8% ABV. Not really a stout but more towards a Doppelbock but good though.

600ml bottle from the LCBO. Deep brown body with thick brown head. Chocolate, rum, raisin, alcohol and fig aromas. Taste is creamy and overly filling. Alcohol warmth overpowers the finish.
