COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sargon is a ginger beer that has been partially barrel aged in rum barrels. This fun and flavourful twist on an English Ale is our brewers’ interpretation of the classic rum-and-ginger beer combo called a “Dark & Stormy.” Organic ginger contributes the signature aromatics of this spice, along with a snappy heat. An aging in cognac/rum barrels adds the final touches to Sargon. History & Style Beau’s LCBO Barrel Aged Beer Feature for spring 2014 is inspired by the art and mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. Sargon is the name of a legendary warrior-king whose dynasty controlled Mesopotamia for more than a century. We took inspiration for Sargon from the English Ale style, and added a ginger-and-rum flavour infusion. Tasting Notes Pours deep orange to copper in colour, with a dry finish. Ginger is dominant in this sessionable ale that offers fresh root aroma and snappy, peppery taste. Sweet malt provides a balanced counterpoint. The finish is clean and slightly bracing with gently lingering rum notes. Food Pairings Jerk chicken, roti, satays or pad thai with peanut sauce, La Sauvagine cheese, crème caramel

Gigantesque collet blanc. Un peu de bière ambré au fond du verre. Très effervescente. Épicé. Gingembre (piquante). Muscade. Vanille. Boisé. Florale. Thé (rooibos/chai). Très bien.

My Bottom Line:
This intensely gingery brew has dryness and citrusy tartness going for it, but its linearity and lack of promised barrel presence are quickly found downfalls.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is a lot of foam sitting atop the misty dull amber.
-The rum barrel apport seems to be have drowned within the ginger fruitiness and spiciness. These must have been old barrels?
-Hop bitterness and base cereals are felt soon enough.
-The bubbly and dry mouthfeel helps drinkability.

Bottle.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2014 Pours hazy orange with the biggest, most ridiculous white head I have ever seen. And it just won’t dissipate. Light ginger on the nose and not much else.Tastes predominantly of ginger and at times even has a ginger ale soft drink undertone. Overall it’s fairly tasty, and goes down super easy, but I would hesitate to purchase it again.

Pours a golden/orange with a half finger, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has notes of rum. Taste has big notes of ginger. Like I’m having sushi. Medium body and carbonation. Not a fan.

600 mL bottle. Hazy orange-brown with a huge off-white head. Almost "there’s something wrong’ huge. Mild, sweet ginger in the nose. The ginger is clearly present in the flavour, but is not overwhelming. Not much from the barrel. Lower carbonation than most ginger beers, which is actually kinda nice.

Hazy yellow, not much foam. Aromas of ginger. Flavors of ginger, hops and wood. Couleur jaune trouble avec peu de mousse. Arômes de gingembre. Saveurs de gingembre, houblon et bois.

Pours bruised orange with a cap that is more top heavy than Tura Satana. It’s nose is ginger ale. Not sure what to make of this brew. My first thought might be that ginger just may not work that well with beer. A few sips in my mind starts to change a bit but I’m sure how committed I am to this. It’s a deep peppery flavour, with a very slight soapy aftertaste. I’m not getting the dark & stormy cocktail reference (I make a mean one by the way, with home made ginger beer & dark St Lucia rum). Not convinced I’d have again.

Bottle. Shared at game night. Hazy golden amber. Slightly dirty vegetal aroma with a soapy ginger edge. Light perfumey palate, slightly sour, woody, with soapy ginger. Mildly bitter finish. Certainly unique in the realm of ginger beers, and thankfully not a sweet candy mess. Enjoyable, but where’s the rum barrel?

Pours a cloudy orangy - copper with a large rocky dull white head that slowly settles to a small covering(after a while!) with some sticky lace on the glass. Aroma is ginger root, sugar cane, rum and light oak. Flavour is authentic ginger, mild alcohol, rum, mild sugar cane sweetness, light oak and a bit of a tart finish.

Thanks to cfrancis for this one. Pours a murky orangish copper with a frothy off white head. Aroma of ginger, sugar cane, light oak, pale malts and light caramel. Taste is ginger, sugar cane, light lemon citrus, light rum oak flavors and essentially a dark and stormy type effect with the ginger being dominant but in balance.
